Re: S148 from Turbo Technics
Thanks for the detailed reply mate! It's a stock ECU but looks âmodified' I'll take a pic tomorrow - the face plate is spaced off for some reason. I've never touched it as it always just worked. Just dawned on me that this could be causing the issues, if it has been adapted in some way to pe...

Re: S148 from Turbo Technics
It's still being problematic! I've been going through things today trying to get to the bottom of it. Still smoking, still burning some oil and using a LOT of fuel. However I'm still getting decent performance. I get what sounds like a squealing/whining under boost which I thought was either a vac l...

Re: S148 from Turbo Technics
Had the intake pipes off again Saturday morning and cleared the newly deposited gunge from the turbo inlet and hoses, then used a can for a temporary catch can (which I plumbed the hose coming out of the standard catch can into) and blanked off the hose input to the air intake pipe. After 100 miles ...

Re: S148 from Turbo Technics
I might have to invest if the hose re-route doesn't work! Is it something to worry about if a significant amount of oil is being kicked out from the crankcase breather? I figured it might just be because of a slightly bigger turbo and therefore more pressure..? That may just be daft reasoning though.

Re: S148 from Turbo Technics
That was my plan initially but I'd read that it was necessary to create a vacuum between the intake to help draw air out of the crankcase. But if I can just leave it open then I'll try that :thumleft: Yeah started it first time after the rebuild and it was smoking at idle, don't think it was smoking...

Re: S148 from Turbo Technics
Haven't driven the car for a while now because this has p*ssed me off and I'm worried it's something serious which I don't want to exacerbate. Emailed a couple of MR2 specialists asking to bring the car in for a check over but they didn't bother replying :thumleft: There was oil in the intake side o...

Re: 3s-GTE ‘putt putt’ sound
Is it stuttering/misfiring too? My first thought would be water in the spark plug chambers (if that's what they're called )

Re: S148 from Turbo Technics
It smoked since the turbo was fitted though, literally since first start up.. so I'd really hope it's not the new turbo! I'm gonna get compression checked and leak down test because this is making me very nervous  I did ask the mechanic to check engine health and make sure the oil feed/return w...

Re: S148 from Turbo Technics
Right, still smokey and definitely lost some oil (about halfway down the dipstick now after a few hundred miles). My feeling is that it's (hopefully) the valve stem seals due to it generally smoking when sat idling or in traffic for a while or on overrun (downhill especially). How bad is it to repla...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Should I Remove My EBC
I've just set up my Blitz Dual SBC again with some advice from Gazza - it was really a lot simpler than I thought!

Re: Door / Window Moudling Refurb
I've used the Gtechniq to do mine in the past. They were improved but are still grey and faded looking in patches - masking and spraying doesn't sound like a bad idea

Re: S148 from Turbo Technics
Got it boosting right now - didn't seem to like having the BOV blanked off as it was before :-k Still smokey though.. think it's probably over fueling rather than burning oil though! Do I need to get it mapped or something? Edit: HOLY SH*T IT'S QUICK NOW (currently at about 1.15 bar) quite a bit lag...

Re: S148 from Turbo Technics
So just done the first drive, can't get it over actuator pressure (0.8 bar) for some reason. Went all the way up to 80% on the EBC but it didn't seem to affect a thing. Also getting a lot of smoke, especially on overrun. Which is worrying me as I'd have thought any residual oil would've burned off d...

Re: S148 from Turbo Technics
Having fun trying to figure out what vac line goes where.. The Dual SBC 'box' has two ports on the top - IN and OUT. Do I remove the vac line which Turbo Technics have fitted (with a T-piece) between turbo and actuator, and then plumb the Blitz onto these instead? IE. IN goes to the turbo and OUT go...

Re: S148 from Turbo Technics
Assuming that a conservative 17psi should be *safe* - what warning signs (if any) would you see if you were to start upping the boost beyond what the stock engine and fuelling can support? Or would something just pop and you'd lose a tonne or power then call the AA

Re: S148 from Turbo Technics
Just discovered that wastegate and actuator are the same thing. That helps a bit haha I've also been running with the BOV blanked off for the last year or so - I should be ok to continue doing this with the S148 right as it has a steel shaft? I know it's a massive topic of debate regarding running B...

Re: S148 from Turbo Technics
Definitely get a wideband if you're planning on running much above stock boost. I've set mine to ~15psi for now, not going any further til I get a wideband in there. So I never need to actually adjust the actuator/it isn't adjustable? If I didn't have an EBC then I'd be sat at 0.8 bar all day with ...
