How is the hand brake done ? (and does it retain f/r balance ?)

Re: the famous snap oversteer story's! Mr2 mk2!

I went out for a passenger ride in a mate's golf mk5 r32 last weekend. Quite a quick car, but much, much more forgiving as it's 4wd. He was stamping on the throttle as soon as he'd put lock on and the 4wd was just sorting it out for him - i was surprised it's safe/reasonable to stamp on the throttl...

Re: Lift-Off over steer question

....... Going round the bend from the start you can probably WOT all of 2nd gear and part of 3rd before your back going straight again. I never felt like my grip was close to the limits on the few occasions I’ve had some speed up round the bend but I also didn't keep my foot down, before the bend I...

Rev2 HVAC controls lighting refresh ?

Pretty much all the lights behind my heater controls have given up the ghost.
The only one i have left is behind the external/recirc button on the right.

Does anyone provide refurb services/items of these ?

Sorry, yes, that's what I mean. mk2 vs mk3.

Re: Fast-road/Track car advice - mk3 2ZZ or mk2 turbo?

The rev2 almost certainly has the edge in straight line speed, comfort if you're taller and a bit more practicality if it's also a shopping car. The rev3s are a good deal lighter and have an amazing turn-in on a track - they're little roller skates by comparison. They are probably a bit lighter on c...

Re: Lift-Off over steer question

Okay so from your post before it seems one would have to really try in order to induce the lift off oversteer/spin in an MR layout? When you say straighten up the fronts do you mean with reference to the direction of understeer/travel (by using opposite lock) or with reference to the car? And what ...

Re: Lift-Off over steer question

Well yes you are right, this might not happen on public roads but what if it does. Lets say something similar happened on track where its a tight bend and there is an obstruction ahead and you really want to stop the car. Would you still keep on the throttle and only gently lift off? If you are mid...

Re: Lift-Off over steer question

Hello All, I am new here looking to get an MR-2 mk2. I have never driven a mid-rear engine car or a rwd but from reading I know it is prone to snap/lift-off oversteer specially the earlier models. I know from driving fwd cars what lift-off oversteer is like. I have read how people counter snap/lift...

The quality of resto job on the VW and the merc look amazing, but I simply cannot subscribe to the ridiculous lowering of them. Seems nuts to me. They are worth so much more when original rather than pandering to a current fad.

baahh humbug.

Re: the famous snap oversteer story's! Mr2 mk2!

It's just an MR car. If you boot it clumsily and it looses traction at the rear with any lock on, be ready to go backwards unless you spend a lot of time learning the speed you have to react to it. Similarly if you lose it under braking and the back end goes round the front (i do this a lot on track...

This. mk3s are good track cars and are lighter on their feet/parts/tyres.

Re: 25 year rolling tax exemption

pretty pointless as to many cars now will make it to 25yr old. Plus if they stop taxing you this way they will tax you else where to make up the lose of income. I'm not sure many actually get there though. Yes, a modern car SHOULD make it to 25 years of age, but it takes a certain type of determina...

Aside from a larger thermal capacity (i.e heatsoak resistance), please explain why it's a stupid argument.

Re: Rev3 turbo to a skyline gtr?

Depending on the health of the rest of the car I'd be spending on maintenance - calipers, springs/shocks/sills, pads/hoses, bushes, rollbars and then geometry and tyres. Unless you're dead set on going some way over 300bhp, the standard engine will do you fine if it's well looked after, you won't ne...
