Did intend to have it all on the car running and dyno'd by now, but as things go what with work and such, its all got a bit behind. ITB's are now on the car first.. manifold was made by a local engineeri...

Re: [Mk2] [NA] ITS ALIVE!!!!!!
yeah it was all checked, re checked, many cups of coffee and swearing when doing the shims and such. found the best mix was the Jap cams and shim buckets with the Uk head and valves. theres slight differences in weight and design and thickness, which meant the tolerances were better. the engine does...

Re: [Mk2] [NA] Engine Rebuild
yup i found that out... however they are now M10. the thread had totaly gone in one, it had been helicoiled and the helicoiled had pulled out, so resulted in being drilled out and re-threaded.. now with nice big chunky stainless bolts in.. (i need to check the back of the tensioner next time.. didnt...

Re: [Mk2] [NA] Bearings, Block and Squirters
Yeah i had a Mic up of the bores and im fitting new rings because the oil saver's are a tad dead.. but its still showing the Honing from the past anyway. i will give it a light hone just to clean up and put back together. the mini is off the road from the start of Jan, and im in 2 minds to just crac...

Re: [Mk2] [NA] Bearings, Block and Squirters
i got a reply regarding these from a ex Toyota employee, apparently they are a Special Toyota Part. a piston slap eliminator ring. curious as the engine is non interference fit anyway why they would stick that in.. i have looked at all the pictures online of these engines. of replacement bores, of b...

Re: [Mk2] [NA] Bearings, Block and Squirters
OK. so yes but no but maybe then reguarding the oil squirters.. ok what about these rings in the top of the bore? the bores themselves ate 86.00mm in diameter. on the top of the bore i know you sometimes get a step of carbon built up. well this is different. its another metal, different to the bore ...

Re: [Mk2] [NA] Bearings, Block and Squirters
Also Ashman. http://www.imoc.co.uk/forums/viewtopic.php?p=572610 "also, every 3S-GE engine has pre-plumbed oil passages in the block, on the turbo cars, these passages are used for oil squirters for cooling the underside of the pistons. GE cars however don't have these installed, but he passage...

Re: [Mk2] [NA] Bearings, Block and Squirters
big ends had shown signs of going. there was a few scores on them from picking up crap. i have all new "Kings" bearings for both mains and Bigends from Hurley. the Thrust's were fine. Im still not convinced this block is NA. but it matters not. i was curious about the extra sealing ring on...

Re: [Mk2] [NA] Bearings, Block and Squirters
tipical.. i read on some sites that 3S-GE's dont have them. only 3S-GTE's have squirters. then on post's on other forums its totally the opposite.. in my head i can't see why they would need to be on a NA engine. its for cooling the piston crown, normally on boosted applications. anyway kinda glad i...

The Plot Thickens
Just had the crank out. and the bearings were definitely due to go.. lots of bearing scores and need to get the crank checked out. the other thing is i think i know why i couldn't find the engine number listed for N/A.. its got Oil squirter's for the piston crowns.. so that would make it a 3S-GTE bl...

Re: Frozen windscreen... On the inside...
A tip i have from Driving Old mini's is to pop to a local motorbike shop and get some Bob Heath Visor spray. it stops the screen misting up. doesn't stop it condensation as much but at least you can see to drive without waiting for it to demist or warm up. (my T-bar wasn't leaking when i got it. tha...

Re: Rev 1 JDM vs Rev 1 UK
OK. last post on all of this. cause i don't think i even started on a level playing field with all this.. what ever has been done to this G-Limited i don't think its how it ever came out the factory. i took pictures of the heads side by side, both are different to each other. so i don't have 2 rev1 ...
