Re: Rev 1 JDM vs Rev 1 UK

ok so the cams are the same even though physically they look different. even down to the pin hole on the end being a single one on the JDM like the rev 3 rather than the 3 pin hole rev 1 uk ones. makes you wonder if these were made in the same factory around the same time. why they look totally diff...

Re: Rev 1 JDM vs Rev 1 UK

OK. pics are a tad grainy. but heres some of the small differences. 1st, cams. the one loose is the JDM cam the UK one is still in the head. http://i163.photobucket.com/albums/t293/madjester_album/Toyota%20MR2%20T-bar%20G-limited/MR2%20new%20Engine/IMG00077.jpg heres the rocker covers. bottom is the...

Rev 1 JDM vs Rev 1 UK

OK. now i have been through all the documents online. listened to everyone about these engines. yet im finding differences between the engines. and not just the odd bracket here and there. Timing belt. thats the first one. the JDM has a Sprung tensioner, the UK has the Oil Pressure fed one., the roc...

Re: [Mk2] [NA] Its oil jim, but not where it should be...

yeah i was advised not to use heat cause of the damper and it could also ruin the crank end. its not a problem. the only source of heat i have here is a heatgun. but i have a spare pulley and bolt anyway. i was going to change the header for stainless steel. i like the sound it makes and looks nice....

Re: [Mk2] [NA] Its oil jim, but not where it should be...

yup its ok just me being me.. its the same head and block, just different parts being one from UK and one from Japan. spent the day playing with it, finding out all its fun bits.. that bottom pulley bolt is still not moving.. even with the big Kawasaki air gun on it. resorting to more evil ways of m...

Re: [Mk2] [NA] Its oil jim, but not where it should be...

My original engine was a 3S-GE 1990 Jap Import lump with a Spring tensioner. i might as well change every seal on that side of the engine at this rate. just in case.. i cant run it till its all back together and in the car anyway. no other way of finding out where it comes from till then. (this is m...

[Mk2] [NA] Its oil jim, but not where it should be...

Picked up the engine from Madbasshunter on Saturday and got it into the workshop today. Started to have a look at it and it differs from my Rev1 engine in a few ways.. things like mine doesnt have a cold start injector on the manifold by the throttle body, the brackets are different on the engine, p...

Re: New Engine Time!

Ashman's one does sound good. but its the whole thing about keeping the car standard. i wanted to keep it all age related. same rev and all. unless a rev 3 block and head can be mated to a rev1 gearbox and injection system. then i might look at that. Also i want something i can just drop in. i don't...

Re: New Engine Time!

GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR Ebay seller copped out of delivering the engine.. Said it was running. sold as a low mileage lump. but rang me a few mins ago stating he tried to turn it over and it locks up 3/4 of the way round.. its a non interference fit engine so must be something very nasty going on to cause i...

Re: New Engine Time!

ok Ashman. dont worry about the engine. my father surprised me with a very low mileage Rev 1 lump. (great when you have parents who do the weirdest things like suddenly buy you an engine even though you just had the "if you want one, you will have to pay it all yourself" chat.. i'm 35. i c...

Re: New Engine Time!

Its deffently going to need a new engine.. we got it apart this afternoon. No2 piston wasn't too bad. well till we got the sump off. the big end had spun the bearings. looks like it had been like that for a while and the being sat for 2 years might of not helped matters. conrod was charred black. an...

Re: New Engine Time!

to be honest i had checked. and i had seen some of the reviews about them. i just wanted proper proof i can throw at my father about them.. think the phrase "Do not touch even with a barge pole" comes in handy for this lot.. so Engine.. Ashman. this engine you have? whats its condition? an...

Update on the Non starting MR2

well after looking over it, sorting the timing, resorting the timing cause a knock pin had slipped. we got the MR2 fired into life today.. all 4 cylinders burst into life.. bit of a tap to start with.. oil pressure went up. then a louder tap from the top end. No3.. left it for a bit. warmed slightly...

Re: [Mk2] [NA] Weird non starting ...

New engine or rebuild it is... got the compression tester out, no compression on 3 of the 4 bores. i know its meant to be a non interferance fit engine but it seems the inlets have made contact with a piston. rotated the cam round till the valves were closed. put some fuel down the inlet and it floo...
