Engine revs raising on warm idle
Hi, When the ECU is in learning mode after battery disconnect, you would have higher idle, but still, it should lower when the engine warms up. I would check the following as the below have affect on your idle speed: - Intake air temp sensor (~2.3k @ ~20C) - Clean IAC valve + its setting on both sid...

Re: Emissions Failure - Temperature sensor(s) ? for 1996 MR2 JDM Automatic N/A
Hi Jim, You are most welcome! Yes, these sensors go out of spec over time. Slowly, but surely. I had an overheating problem few years ago as my radiator sensor drifted out of spec. It was still changing its resistance versus temperature, but ended up being out of range for the controlling electronic...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Which alternator (brand)?
Thanks a lot man! Totally forgot about Paul.
Ordered from him a few times over the years, everything has been top notch.
He has a 120amp version for my 2, I think I'll go with that.
Cheers

[Mk2] [Turbo] Which alternator (brand)?
Hi Guys, Planning to purchase an alternator, but not sure which one to choose. There are number of suitable new units available on ebay from 90GBP to 170GBP including postage to Ireland. Most expensive option would be from mr2-ben for 170GBP. I wouldn't mind paying that money if it really lasts. The...

Re: Emissions Failure - Temperature sensor(s) ? for 1996 MR2 JDM Automatic N/A
K20TT seems to be correct equivalent for 90919-01181, so it might be safe to say that the plug is ok. Hopefully the plugs get enough juice from the coil pack to burn all the fuel. Do you smell fuel from the tailpipe? I'd say, check the sensors and hoses, maybe get some injector cleaner and bring it ...

Re: Emissions Failure - Temperature sensor(s) ? for 1996 MR2 JDM Automatic N/A
You are most welcome! Thank you, but I'm far from expert. Electronics is my hobby and my 2 is my only car for 9 years now, so its good to know all these thing in case something happens. I like to know how things work and what's what in the car. It's a hobby in short :) I live in Wexford county. Plug...

Re: Emissions Failure - Temperature sensor(s) ? for 1996 MR2 JDM Automatic N/A
Yes, there are a few sensors around, still not as much as in a modern car. The air temp sensor should be near the airbox. There is indeed a temp sensor in the manifold on the Turbos, called THAM (under the TPS <Throttle Position Sensor>), but I don't think there one in the NA cars. There is no MAF (...

Re: Emissions Failure - Temperature sensor(s) ? for 1996 MR2 JDM Automatic N/A
Hi, The ECU has a separate sensor for coolant temperature. On my REV3 Turbo it's called THW. the wire goes into the 16p connector pin4 (thick red wire). Yours being REV5 auto, it might be different. At this current (cold) temperature, you should measure around 4.5k Ohms. The sensor itself is at the ...

Re: [Mk2] [NA] I’m an idiot.
That's good news, at least the main ecu, igniter etc didn't suffer damage. Hopefully your A/C amplifier control box is working fine (located under the dash-passenger footwell) as that controls the radiator cooling fans if your car has A/C. You don't need an overheating on top of all this. I would ch...

Re: [Mk2] [NA] I’m an idiot.
Hi,
Does the engine start/running normally?
You may have blew number of control units. Some might have reverse voltage protection built in by the means of a diode, so could be repairable.
Have you checked ALL the fuses?
Cheers

Re: REV3 Turbo O2 sensor (Lambda)
DOX0101 is cheaper, but has no plug on it so you splice it in. Personally I think its worth spending the extra on a direct plug in. Bear in mind that for the 4 wire O2's there are few variants for 3SGE/3SGTE depending on revision/market etc. In this case the only difference between DOX0216 and 0217...

REV3 Turbo O2 sensor (Lambda)
Hi Guys, I decided to change my O2 sensor, but not sure what would be the best for it. Nothing wrong with it (haven't hooked up a scope), but I know these can slowly go into "slow response". I bought the car with the current sensor, so it has at least 120 000 kms in it. She is a REV3 Turbo...

Re: sticky gear change
Hey Guys, Just picked up my parts from Toyota. I might owe some sort of apology towards yourselfs and the gt4 website as the pair of bush they are selling for 24GBP are made of bronze. The OEM part from toyota for much less (EUR3.08+VAT each and EUR1.88+VAT each) is made of plastic. I had no way kno...

Re: sticky gear change
So helpful dude thanks a lot. I think i'll just renew every part possible except the cables. They are in good condition and I don't really want to do it in all honesty! But everything else I may as well. It's the only section of the car that isn't split new now :) You are most welcome! Happy to help!

Re: sticky gear change
That's great man. I'll just ring toyota with those part numbers. I'm pretty friendly with the local parts guy at Toyota here too so shouldn't be any issue :) just to confirm (since i'm quite thick) none of those part numbers are the bushes for the selector cables at the gearbox end no? As i just bo...

Re: sticky gear change
I have no intention ruining the business of the previously mentioned website who got the bushes in stock, but these are â¬3.XX +VAT from Toyota each...I just got off the phone with the local Toyota dealer (Hugh Boggans) Agree, it's difficult. I bought the poly bushes direct from BRD at a much lowe...

Re: sticky gear change
Following the topic, that bush (90386-12022) is a great idea to change. I went a bit further and also ordered a set of 90386-12034 which are similar bushes found in the gear selector assy in the cabin. Mine shifts perfectly, but there is always room for improvement. Not to mention, something worthwh...
