Re: Headgasket repair
ordered a head gasket from Toyota today.... roughly what I was expecting to pay but then asked for a price for a set of valve seals..... £8.41 each plus vat  This can't be right can it surely.... 160 quid for a set of seals? Needless to say, I won't be buying them from the Toyota dealer if th...

Re: Headgasket repair
thanks for the replies, that's good advice about taking the gasket along with the head...... I dropped the head and gasket off at the engine builders this morning so it's wait and see time.

Re: Headgasket repair
After taking Pauls advice above, I postponed buying any new parts until I'd got the head off which I did last night. It immediately worried me that I couldn't see any blow past the head gasket although on a brighter note, the block around all the cylinders and water jacket is in excellent condition ...

I did a sniff test on my Mk1 and it didn't show head gasket failure even though the HG had gone....

Re: Headgasket repair
that's good advice Paul, thanks. I intend to keep the car so if the block is corroded, I'll probably pull the engine and get the block decked....... I take your point though...... best to find out first.

Re: Headgasket repair
guys, Since my head gasket blew back in October I've really missed driving my car but work/family commitments have stopped me from repairing it. As I've now got a couple of weeks off, I'm going to get the parts to repair it and get on with it but could do with a bit of advice re parts as this is the...

Headgasket repair
Guys, the head gasket let go on my car on Friday morning and while I've got it stripped down, I might as well change the water pump, timing belt, etc etc. Question I've got is that my car is a crossover model..... it's a AW11B on a 'D' reg, first registered 01.05.87, but it's got the earlier engine ...

Stock Teardrop wheel colour
Guys, I'm going to respray my standard teardrop alloys..... does anyone know if the original silver colour is just ordinary wheel silver, the standard stuff in a rattlecan from a motor factors, or is there a specific colour code for them? I was planning on doing the actual teardrops in pewter. Thank...

Re: Exhaust back box
Apparently Peter it's got to come from Belgium and is heavily discounted..... the parts guy wasn't even sure to start with if they still did them. I was surprised when he said it was stainless and double checked it with him. It doesn't include the tail pipe trims though and I didn't ask him to quote...

All cat D cars are on V-car and irrespective of peoples personal views, they will always fetch less than an equivalent car that isn't on the register. I've driven around in Cat D cars before as a daily but I wouldn't pour any money into one, what's the point when unrecorded cars can be bought for si...

it's false economy not to change thrust washers while you've got the engine apart, the chance of used washers having no wear on them is minimal.

Re: What a sad sight
To be fair, Paul, whether you see many MK1s on the road is not a fair indication of the number of cars left on the road. Numbers in the UK are around 1500 or IIRC from the last count. That's quite a lot to be fair. The number we see about and about on the roads must be some indictation of how many ...
