Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Rev2 to Rev3 Head Conversion *NOW MAPPED*

Paul, I think you should do a funky little side exit exhaust system like Nathans :D That way there'll be no heat sources near the IC at all and you might not even need fans. Your oil cooler might be in the way, though?

BTW, have you fitted your engine lid fan kit?

+1

I'd be embarrassed to drive that. I'm sure it's about as good as Ferrari kits go, but they all just look so badly proportioned and wrong imo.

They sound a bit "chuggy" and rough on idle.

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] will my car be reliable

I know 2 forum members who's engines died after getting remapped. Basically: lean out your air/fuel ratio on a standard engine at your own risk! It won't be the mapper's fault and it's not just about mapping it to have low detonation - it's simply the extra duty the engine is put under. I would have...

Re: Going to look at a mk3 at the weekend, need some advice

Hi guys thanks for the replies. :) I went to see the car last night and other than a few little scratches and a little dent it looks good. And when he took me out in it it sounded nice and smooth, no knocks etc and didnt feel like it was holding back at all. The milage is 60300 so its pretty low fo...

Re: Possible Tyre problems - Demon Tweeks

Definitely can't run the same size all around on a Mk3 - you'd get massive oversteer and your insurance company would give you a hard time if you had an accident. You need to keep 2 steps difference front to rear for - eg 185/55 to 205/50 on standard 15" rims as a minimum. I'm running Advan Ne...

The new wheels look pretty good :thumleft: What are they and are they staggered? Also, what tyres are on them?

Re: HA HA! Upgraded to mk3!

Obviously I would keep the stagger if going for non standard sizes. It's got to be 040s in standard sizes hasn't it.

Re: HA HA! Upgraded to mk3!

interesting comments about the RE040s. Did you experiment with pressures?

I'm put off by the Toyos because, although lots of people like them, far too many people slate them which is not something you can say about the Bridgestones.

Still dreaming of the 16in rear wheels, eh?

Re: HA HA! Upgraded to mk3!

Hmmm  Well, I seriously doubt tyres that are R15 would fit on a 16in rim. Also, the rim diameter measurement needs to be taken from the flat bit of the wheel that you can't see with the tyre on. http://www.carbibles.com/tyre_bible_pg2.html I think you have 15in wheels, which will measure about ...

Re: HA HA! Upgraded to mk3!

2003 onward mk3s have 16in rear wheels. I think yours are correct for a pre-facelift car with 15in rears :thumleft:

I think the Yokohamas were factory fitted on pre-facelift mk3 :-k

Re: HA HA! Upgraded to mk3!

If you haven't got same make tyres all round and in the correct sizes, do it NOW. Do not pass Go, do not collect £200 etc. I've seen too many mk3s sat in ditches over the years to not make a big point in saying that. The mk3 has a fantastic chassis, but it is very vulnerable to different tyres. I u...

Just been out in mine and it's lethal in the wet. Time to replace the rear tyres. What tyres are on yours? Re: HA HA! Upgraded to mk3!

The MK2 was the odd one out in the MR2 life cycle. Mk1 & 3 were small, light, low powered and nimble. The mk2 is big, heavy, higher powered, little more practical and a bit prettier. I would imagine that just the size & weight difference of a mk2 had the undesired effect of making it feel a...

Re: HA HA! Upgraded to mk3!

Got 40mpg from my first tank in the mk3. Mixture of 70% motorway cruise and 30% A/B road fairly spirited. excalibur1814, I agree about the mk2. Phenomonal grip, but no confidence in when it would give up. I've driven a variety of mk2s, from stock to highly modified in the chassis department, none ar...
