Re: MK1 rear track rod ends - why can't I find new ones?
Oops! I hadn't checked before ordering, even though I had the rods removed and photos of them, but it looks like they are LEFT HAND thread. I went out of my way to track down the rose joint in that format so now I need to either swap the rose joints or find new ball joint in M12 RIGHT HAND thread. T...

Re: MK1 rear track rod ends - why can't I find new ones?
At the point that I made the decision, I didn't have an option for buying standard ones for less than making a better set that won't seize so easily. I may add an extension thread to allow me to use female ball joints, but only if I can't get the current ones removed. Lots of interesting chat and su...

Re: MK1 rear track rod ends - why can't I find new ones?
I've got rose joints and turnbuckle rods for a fraction of the cost of those gorgeous track rod assemblies, but I cannot find the rear outer joints - what we call track rod ends. As an immediate solution I will have to cut out the existing ones and fit them. They're in serviceable condition so no re...

MK1 rear track rod ends - why can't I find new ones?
I'm not too desperate because the existing ones are in ok condition, but as I'm rebuilding the suspension and making new track rods it makes sense to replace the outer end ball joint at this stage. The only problem is that I can't find them from the usual sources (I've never bought from Toyota yet)....

Re: What jobs have you got planned for the weekend?
I hate losing a whole weekend of potential work, but it happens. Now I have to squeeze in a weekend of work into 5 weekdays - easier for me than for most of you guys, but not without problems. So for my 'weekend' I plan to refit the cleaned & painted ARBs, and make sure the new bushes soothe tri...

Re: Poly Engine Mounts
I've only been a round for a couple of months so that would have been before my time,Paul. I don't suppose you still have anything available, do you? Although mine aren't exactly shot and there's not much likelihood of my driving style causing the sudden onset of fatigue, there is a degree of slack ...

Re: Adjustable power steering
Cheers Paul. I'll have a look for the info.
Whether I get to do the mod myself is another story but it would be so much help for me that I have to look at it.

Re: Poly Engine Mounts
Worth BUMPing. In the complete absence of replacement bushes it seems this is a fairly critical bit of DIY knowledge.

Re: Adjustable power steering
BUMP! The one thing that I struggle with in my MK1 is the steering at low speed and some PAS would be a huge bonus for me. Before I get accused of being a wimp, let me point out that my left elbow was broken in 5 places (6 if you include the break the surgeon added) and I only have about 50% strengt...

Re: How much would you value this car at?
£200 is not much more than I pay as a 44 year old with clean licence and 4 years NCD. The Cat C is going to be the big problem though. I'm intrigued as to why it was C and not D, given that the damage was sorted easily and you got the VIC. The industry needs to get itself sort over these cars becaus...

There's a yellow sunroof model for sale in Cleveland. There can't be too many yellow ones around.
EDIT: ah, you said it was MK2.

I found the code in the owner's manual and I've ordered one from the eBay guy recommended upthread.

We're you drilling from under the car? The problem I have is that access underneath is restricted to the point that here's only about 18" from floor to plate.

Re: FOR SALE: MR2 AW11 MK1b, Silver, 52k miles, history, Koni yellow suspension etc
For £2k I'd be expecting extremely good condition all round and lower mileage than 150k. I know the engines are good for it but I've seen very few that are that high, and mine is the second highest I've seen at 161k. I don't think they've gone up in value at all, although there are some mint example...

Re: What jobs have you got planned for the weekend?
A full set of SuperPro bushes arrived yesterday so I might well schedule that work for the weekend.
While the car is up on blocks with her boots off I might just install the braided hoses and new caliper seals. There's nothing quite like trying to do too much in one weekend, eh?

Re: MoT FAIL: Front inner wheel arch to chassis joint rust
One significant thing that I completely forgot to do - and for this I'm blaming my brother for rushing ahead with the first plate before I'd finished the profiling - is drill a drain hole in the new plates. This means that not only is here existing surface rust in there, but now there's no way water...

Re: replacement key
Was it better than the old key? Or had you lost the key to begin with?
My keys are making me fumble around to get the steering lock off and then more fumbling to get it to turn for ignition.

Re: [Mk2] [Generic] Tinting T bar glass - DIY style?
It was worth doing just for the cartoon face. I've got this job ahead of me for my MK1b, though I'm only using a dark tint. There must be something about the old glass not being UV filtered because I find it painfully bright when the sun is out and my reactions sunglasses actually darken themselves ...
