Re: Fixed misfire, now flat as a pancake !

Thanks mat for reply, I had some boost but have found not enough boost ! In the end I tracked down the fault to a kinked vacuum/ boost line to the boost controller. Basically I was maxing at 8psi on a temporary analogue gauge, and the boost controller display read 0. It's a blitz controller and I wo...

Fixed misfire, now flat as a pancake !

Hi, Car pulled really strongly until high load high rpm when I got a bad misfire. Decided to target the ignition system, found two open circuit leads. So replaced leads, new plugs ( ngk iridium as before ) and new distributor cap.( nipparts ) However although the car starts fine and idles smoothly, ...

Re: [Mk2] [Generic] Active Sub Woofer help...

Thank you James, sub received. Set it all up and yes indeed something very wrong ! Dissasembled and found the cause, the main driver was sitting at an angle. At first i thought its just been knocked from its mounts - but in fact the magnet was at an angle to the basket. Now since with this sub the d...

Re: [Mk2] [Generic] Active Sub Woofer help...

James, It does sound like you have tried everything now, so as agreed i will consider a refund structure with the following conditions: - Upon receipt of the unit i will test and if it works as it should then you have the option to pay return postage and have it back. If you do not wish it back i wi...

Re: [Mk2] [Generic] Active Sub Woofer help...

I may have many faults but deliberately selling something faulty is not one of them, but let's move on and get it sorted. Due to the joys of iphones i cant see the video but can view it tmrw at work. Do you have access to a voltmeter ? If so can you measure across the power+ to Ground at the sub con...

Re: [Mk2] [Generic] Active Sub Woofer help...

That's why I helped. It came out of my car working after barely hours being used. Is it likely I would sell something duff after being on this forum for over 5 years ? You sound like you've made up your mind it's broken anyway. How do you know it hasnt been damaged by just randomly plugging in leads...

Re: [Mk2] [Generic] Active Sub Woofer help...

BTW what's wrong with splicing in to the speaker cables with RCA plugs, have seen folks do this on fitting tutorials for other cars and it show it like that in the actual manual. I see your point, looking at the Alpine sub manual it shows the RCA connectors used for HI and LO level inputs. All i ca...

Re: [Mk2] [Generic] Active Sub Woofer help...

Ok some thoughts: 1- The SW1600 a well regarded under seat compact active sub. However it is a compact unit and it can not be expected to perform aswell as a full size boxed 8/10/12inch sub + amp. It is simply not possible to get the same low frequency extension and amplitude from a compact version....

Re: [Mk2] [Generic] DIY steering wheel volume controls HELP!!!

Ok then, one step at a time !

But to go any further you will need to measure the voltage across the switch, otherwise it's just guess work without this.

Re: [Mk2] [Generic] DIY steering wheel volume controls HELP!!!

Can you measure the voltage across one of the switches, with button pressed and button released, post the values. You may be missing a pull up resister, so in fact the switch is not switching anything !

Re: [Mk2] [Generic] Battery 11.6v but starts fine

Although voltage is an indication of battery state, what is more relevent is battery voltage under load and its ability to supply current. The voltages you mention will also vary after you have left the car for a few hours, since its a chemical charge process - so measuring the voltage to a certain ...

Re: Neighbours and loud exhausts!!!

If its now and again, like you say - your neighbour should be more tolerant and consider themselves lucky if thats all that annoys them. However ..... on the flip side, low frequency exhaust boom does penetrate a house structure, and if its rattling resonant things inside the house - that can get a ...

Re: [Mk2] [NA] Fuel gauge playing up

Pretty sure the level reading is seperate from the fuel low light.

So maybe a fault with either, or maybe in the past the cluster has been removed and so the needle not correct.

You could do a full tank, set the needle to max and work from there, since you won't know when you have an empty tank

Re: [Mk2] [Generic] ride on 18's and coilovers

This topic surprises me as you seem to have a reasonable level of technical knowledge yet do not grasp the basics of ride quality. You cant remove most of the suspension travel (thus requiring stiffer springs) and remove virtually all the compliance in the tyres by fitting 18's and expect a decent ...

Re: [Mk2] [Generic] ride on 18's and coilovers

thanks for the input. Some interesting points mentioned. Yes things like tyre pressure will have an effect, super_red what was yours originally set to - was it really high, or have you lowered the pressure loads, looking at 18's the consensus seemed to be 29psi was the lowest you'd want to go. I act...

[Mk2] [Generic] ride on 18's and coilovers

I have KSPORTS & 18's and i dont like the ride. I even retrofitted stock toyota top mounts which gave an element of isolation but still not too my taste. ( so possibly some Ksports <200miles coming up for sale soon ! ) My requirement is lowered with 18's and an 'ok' ride as a dd. Doing much sear...

[Mk2] [Generic] TEIN ss coilovers owners satsified with lowering?

Hi, looking on the forums, these coilovers seem to have great feedback with regards to ride quality with the proviso of limited drop, so ..... my question is anyone running these say on max drop and how is the ride - still good ? or has it suffered from the lesser shock travel ? I'm running ksports ...
