Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Clunking and boinging from front suspension when turning the wheel

Mind you i did do my own front top mounts a few days earlier, I dont remember if the noise disappeared after the mounts but my top mounts were just full of play not seized so wouldn't pose the same problems as you outline. If your mounts are seized then id start there then to the drop links if the p...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Clunking and boinging from front suspension when turning the wheel

Im with skywalker. I recently had a similar problem, sort of heavy clunk with some spring noise in there usually when I was parking with 2 wheels on the path just as i was straightening up. I've since put new droplinks in and have not heard anythin since.

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Could I run run my car with no coolant just water ?

Its perfectly fine to run with just water for a while to find the leak. The problem with running for extended periods is the aluminum in the engine corrodes after a while. Make sure and drain the system properly afterwards then any remaining water will be diluted sufficently by the coolant you re-fi...

Re: [Mk2] [NA] Lowered the car but now can hear a click over speed bumps

Thats pretty handy I was wondering if any manufacturer had come out with those kind of preformed sleeves. I wonder can they be bought seperately rather than going to the lengths I went to.

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] drop links / anti roll bar

I dont think there is a specific problem with the droplinks in MR2s I think its more the age of the cars now. The oldest MK2s are 17 years old with the youngest still about 8 years old. After that much time stuff like drop links, bushes, balljoints etc give up the ghost. Its just a fact we need to a...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] drop links / anti roll bar

To my knowledge there should be zero play in the anti roll bar mechanism.

Re: [Mk2] [NA] Lowered the car but now can hear a click over speed bumps

If your springs are clashing that much I'd suggest that they aren't properly suited to the damper rates. Your absolutely right im running standard dampers with 30mm lowering springs pretty much for the look. I dont drive hard I just like the lower look as a lot of people do. I dont however like the...

Re: [Mk2] [NA] Lowered the car but now can hear a click over speed bumps

Well the job is done. It was pretty evident that the coils are clashing as you can see from the before pics. Keep in mind these springs are less than 3 months old with bout 1500 miles on em. You can see the beating the coils have received. The new shock is in and the front springs are wrapped in two...

Cheers lads I'll have it all checked out when im done fiddling and get done what needs to be done. Crooky thats the exact noise thanks for that description. Thats what i thought it was initially but i've had these springs out 3 times now and was very careful the last time to make sure and seat the s...

Re: [Mk2] [NA] Lowered the car but now can hear a click over speed bumps

Is camber adjustment built into the cars suspension like tracking or are new components needed to alter the settings?

Re: [Mk2] [NA] Lowered the car but now can hear a click over speed bumps

Thats an interesting idea I never thought of, Gonna have a think about that and see if i can improve on it cos id imagine it'd only be a matter of time before the hose pipe wore through. Dont give a crap what it looks like, it'll never be seen in there. Im leaving the tracking till im finished messi...

Re: [Mk2] [NA] Lowered the car but now can hear a click over speed bumps

Anyone got any ideas on this cos i've now replaced the front top mounts and the droplinks all around and this metallic click/tapping noise is still comin from under the car up front. I've just read another post that said the member had removed his lowering springs cos the coils were clashing over bu...

Re: [Mk2] [NA] Warped front discs

Ok have the grease it says its good between -50C and 200C with peaks of 225C for short periods. Is that sufficent for the slide pins in a brake caliper I cant imagine them gettin too much hotter than that keeping in mint this is a road car that rarely sees sustained heavy braking. This is the only l...

Re: [Mk2] [NA] Warped front discs

I was thinkin that myself I used the only stuff i had to hand it is for high temps but Im not sure if it'll withstand brake temps. Dont have the can to hand. Its all I had. im gonna get a specific high temp grease and do the 4 slide pins when I get some better weather. Got pi$$ed on today doin them....

Re: [Mk2] [NA] Warped front discs

Disks are in and wouldn't ya know the suggestions posted here were very useful cos the lower slide pin was seized on both sides took some doing to get them out and clean the crud off em but got there in the end lubed em up good and put er back together. The pistons came out fairly evenly as per luth...

Re: [Mk2] [NA] Wheel Bearing Cost

Doing it myself could never be an option as I wouldn't know where to start. Dropped the car off at Horwich Tuning in Bolton this morning, car will be ready early afternoon, £110 fitted :D Seems like a good result! GOOD RESULT! Thats a feckin bargain. Re: [Mk2] [NA] Wheel Bearing Cost

It was a total nightmare, getting the old bearing out took about an hour of solid pounding on it with a lump hammer and a slug of cast iron had some crazy setup involving an apple tree stump a cavity block and a cobblers last....... dont ask. It took me about 7 hours in total. Afterwards i was fried...

Re: [Mk2] [NA] Wheel Bearing Cost

Bearing is about £70 here http://www.roguemotorsport.com/forms/Product.aspx?ID=419 to fit it would take a well equipt garage 2-3 hours. I done mine with nothing but a socket set and some other basic tools and it was a pig of a job and took about 7 hours in baking sunshine. depending on your mechanic...
