Re: What is the difference between tie bars and drop links?
To be pedantic, a "tie rod" (or tie bar) is anything that fixes one part to another part so a drop-link IS a tie-rod. The term "drop link" is just a more well-defined term for the tie-rods used to connect the ARB to the suspension. It's kinda like how you could use the word "...

Re: [Mk2] [NA] Help me choose please...quick!!!
Anyone know if inverted coilovers are worth the extra cash? They do "upside down" shock absorbers for cars? UD forks are, allegedly, a good idea on motorbikes because they can (if made properly) reduce the unsprung weight of the front wheel quite significantly which gives the bike better ...

Re: headlights reduce top speed?
While driving along at 135mph with the engine bouncing off the red-line in top gear I have often been frustrated and angered to find my speed drop to barely more than 130mph when it gets dark and I switch on the headlights. Clearly this is totally unacceptable and we should do everything in our powe...

Re: [Mk2] [NA] Where to get bulbs for instrument cluster?
I've probably said this before but JohnnyC's EL dials look much more classy than the usual rubbish. Very nice. I'd much rather have them in red or orange though. :( I fitted red quad-LED bulbs into my MR2 dash recently and the results are a nice improvement (for £3 off eBay) over the rather old-fash...

well who knows, some days the underdog will have his bone. http://www.saxperience.com/forum/showthread.php?t=306035 Saxo (i think) smokes a Supra. I bet it stings to be smoked by a Saxo, or Nova, or Clio, or Skoda, or Fiat Punto diesel.... Blimey! So, a Saxo can beat a Supra and, later on...

Re: Retract mirrors to alarm.
Well, the mirror retract is on a push-button so as long as your alarm has a momentary (as opposed to latching) output there should be some way to make it work, even if you need to fit a relay into the circuit to replicate the function of the switch. Must say, though, I'm not sure it's worth the effo...

Re: Makes you wonder...
TBH, I used to find myself doing this quite a bit when driving my Porsche. On an empty motorway or d/c'way the speed would creep up but when I catch up with other cars I realise I am going quick enough to stick out like a sore thumb and so I sit behind somebody doing a respectable speed for a while....

Re: [Mk2] [NA] Where to get bulbs for instrument cluster?
Easiest place to buy them is probably eBay.
There's heaps there. Normal bulbs and LED ones, all in different colours.
I just replaced my standard bulbs with orange ones and it makes the dash look a bit more pleasant at night.

Re: [Mk2] [Generic] Where does the water come from that makes the driver's door rusty?
What he said. You're never going to stop water getting into the door. Car manufacturers know this. That's why they glue a sheet of plastic to the inside of the door. It stops the water that runs into the door from actually getting into the car properly. The easiest thing to do is have holes in the b...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Squishy Brakes even after bleeding!!
Does your car have ABS? There's 2 things related to it. First,, I knwo from experience (though I dunno why) that the ABS system can make the pedal spongy even if the actual brake system is working properly. Secondly, the ABS unit makes for a helluva difference in how the brake systems is physically ...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Squishy Brakes even after bleeding!!
FWIW, I always used to bleed brakes manually and never really had any problem but then, one day, I had to do it by myself and was forced to buy one of those rubber tube-things from Halfrauds. Basically, it's a lump of rubber that goes over the bleed nipple and has a non-return valve in it. Absolutel...

Re: [Mk2] [Generic] Not sure what to do...............
I dunno why you'd buy a bunch of bits for your car, or take it to a garage, when there's nothing wrong with it.
I'm guessing you thought you'd just get it inspected after buying it.
Oh well, live and learn, I guess.

Re: [Mk2] [Generic] Fitting drop links
Be prepared to saw the old droplinks off. I found the best way to do it (and I know this might sound a bit extreme) was to saw diagonally through the nuts. Half the nut will fall away and the remaining part will almost certainly be loose enough to undo with a ring spanner. Other thing to consider is...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] ABS Fault
You already posted this in the Mk3 forum and received a few replies but I dunno where that thread has gone. :-k I think Patrick from Rogue Motorsport responded by saying only Rev 4 & 5 cars have the decelerometer and it should be bolted to the top of the central tunnel, underneath the stereo and...

A mixed bag then?
I guess the deal is that they don't like point-impacts so I'm probably doing the right thing by handling them with kid gloves when I move them about.
I always worry that dinging one against, say, the locking mechanism on the door might cause it to shatter.

Re: [Mk2] [NA] ABS fault - not always a big deal
Ooooh, Just came across something quite interesting, related to what I saw today. It seems that a new, fully functional, ABS sensor can sometimes cause a fault to register. What happens is that your car starts off with 4 shiny new wheel sensors and, as the car gets used, they'll gradually attract me...

Re: Warm MR2 turbo - effortlessly fast but ......boring?
I think the biggest "problem" with turbo cars is that, on the sort of roads where driving is really enjoyable, you are likely to end up travelling (and, most importantly, cornering) at inappropriately high speeds IF you make full use of the power. A few mates of mine bought themselves trai...

Re: Caliper question
I dunno, I'm always wary of writing things off to coincidence. 9 times out of ten you'll find another cause if you look hard enough. I can't really see how a hose would cause this. I've seen something vaguely similar where a 2" hydraulic hose has delaminated internally and allowed oil to flow o...

Yeah,
I had a fault #34 (left rear sensor) so that guide has me covered.
I just noticed that guide doesn't mention a code for "decelerometamabob failure" so I was just wondering if there is a more complete list of codes available somewhere, for future reference.

[Mk2] [NA] ABS fault - not always a big deal
Just thought I'd share my experience.... I've had an ongoing problem with my ABS since the car was left to stand at a local garage for 8 months, 2 years ago. With an MOT looming (I have no idea how the cowboy garage got it through the MOT last year with the dodgy ABS) I thought I'd see if I could so...
