Re: mk1 rally car

Oh how fun that has to be!!! I must say i got impressed with mine last winter, running road legal studded tires i never got stuck. It`s harder to make it stop :P Cant wait till this winter, i`m sure there will be no more studs at the rear when February comes. They say that with rally-grade studded t...

Re: Brakes keeps overheating on track, need some tips quick...

Tjäna Finn :) Already changed brake lines and brake fluid, new pads will be fitted as soon as i get new rear rotors(Carbotech AX6). Ducts will be fitted, and possibly with a turbine pump just in case as soon as i get my monitoring system up and running. Will be nice to actually see the difference wi...

Re: Brakes keeps overheating on track, need some tips quick...

As far as facts go, normal 5.1 should have about 40C higher boiling point than DOT 4. Anyway, i dont think the brake fluid is the biggest problem, the problem is heat building up in the callipers, they should not get THAT hot. I did a bunch of laps, 10-15 at a time with the old vauxhall omega, brake...

Re: Brakes keeps overheating on track, need some tips quick...

So now i can really regret leaving the Carbotechs at home :P Full set of AX6 i think. Well, better luck next year i guess, hopefully with new rotors and carbotech pads. And try to get them tested before heading to the track

Re: Brakes keeps overheating on track, need some tips quick...

I`m probably in the "animalistic" end when it comes to braking, although on Saturday i barely touched them at all and they still failed, that said i measured the disc temperatures when stopping in the pits after a cool down lap. Temperatures then was 160C front and 120C rear. I did notice ...

Re: Brakes keeps overheating on track, need some tips quick...

I did look in to that last year, never made up my mind. Its a struggle between keeping it stock and have no MOT problems, and making it a good track car. Unsure if its worth the hassle for 2 weekends a year too.

Re: Brakes keeps overheating on track, need some tips quick...

A Mk1 with stock calipers suffering brake fade on track? Surely not :D I Feel a slight amount of sarcasm in that one :p It did get better, but then again i took it easy so might have been that. did a few laps, they faded, got good when cold so dried drifting instead, hard to get the rear out on the...

Re: Brakes keeps overheating on track, need some tips quick...

Ok, new SS brake lines mounted, fluid changed and pad isolation added on the piston side. Heading for the track soon so better keep the fingers crossed :P

Also checked that all slides and pistons moved freely, so it SHOULD work now.

Re: Brakes keeps overheating on track, need some tips quick...

Just came to think of one thing, i ont have anti squeal shims mounted, i guess they insulate the pad from the calliper too, how much difference does it make when it comes to heat transfer?

Re: Brakes keeps overheating on track, need some tips quick...

Hi Peter, No, havent gutted it yet. How does it drive when wet or even snow/ice with the valve gutted? I plan to use the car as daily drive for at least one more year, so winter-driving will be a part of it. From what i could find it should mostly have an effect at low pressure, so might not be rele...

Re: Brakes keeps overheating on track, need some tips quick...

Both rear calipers is moving nicely, had no problems pulling them off the slides and the pistons moves without hassle. Fronts have bee very good for some time, but i guess they need bleeding now. Ill change fluid and go to braided lines, then i just have to try it out, if it works thats great, if no...

Re: Brakes keeps overheating on track, need some tips quick...

Yeah will be changing brake fluid from dot4 to dot 5.1 (if i cant find more hardcore stuff) It should be said tough, they did test the brake fluid at the track, and it was good enough that he did not even get a measurement.... Pads, as it have it, i have some carbotech pads at home, but decided it w...

Brakes keeps overheating on track, need some tips quick...

Hi. I am attending a track weekend now, but my brakes boils to the point of complete failure after 2laps. The track is kind of fast, but not insanely so. Top speed of around 145km/h. It started out needing a bit of pedal pressure until it got warm, then the pedal got nice and hard, and 1 lap later I...

I guess that could be possible. Not sure if the curving is even the whole length, if so I could use the spoiler itself as a template for that.

Re: Spoiler repair thread. WIP More pictures added 12.08-12

Yeah I used 320 paper on the filler, i can get it flat, but i cant get that subtle arc that the spoiler has. I have to put in some more filler anyway, so will give it a last try. I know it will never be perfect anyway as i did something wrong when patching it, and the two sides of the hole got a bit...

Could be the throttle position sensor, my car got like that when the contact came loose.

Re: Spoiler repair thread. WIP More pictures added 12.08-12

Hi again, been a while since last update due to vacation and busy days at work. Getting really fed up with the filler and sanding paper now, so decided to put a layer of primer on it to see how it looks, and I think it looks good enough now :) You can still tell where the damage has been, but it is ...

Re: Project MRX350

Agree that the original spoiler looks best on the mk1 IMO. There is some aerodynamic analysis done on the effects of the spoiler, seems like there is a theoretical downforce(like <0.5kg), and a theoretically reduced drag, again so little that it as no practical meaning and might just be rounding err...

Re: Creaky passenger door

Could it be the window hitting the sealing clips in the door frame? If so, check that the clips looks normal, and/or adjust the window height down slightly. (Don`t mess with the window settings if you dont have too, it might be quite time consuming to get it right the first times.
