Re: Compression check

Sorry I was thinking of a more traditional starter arrangement where it's mounted parallel to the engine pointing towards the flywheel.

I forgot on the MR2 it's mounted from the gearbox side.

Pretty sure it's a no but is it possible to do a compression check on a rev 2 engine on an engine stand? [/b]

Yes of course it's possible..as long as the flywheel and gearbox attached to the engine.

Thanks

You do not need a gearbox attached.

Re: Compression check

Yes, if you hook up the starter motor to a battery with a coupe of hefty (jump) cables.

Re: Engine turn over.

Yes, if you have the spark plugs in.

It will be one of the pistons on its compression stroke causing the resistance.

Re: Probably an unpopular opinion regarding cam belts

I'm with you on this one If you know the water pump and pulleys are only say 20-30 k miles old and they feel smooth but with a little resistance when spun then they should be good til next belt change. The only caveat being check the front and rear of each pulley as even supposedly quality pulleys ...

Do you think maybe it's a good idea to post this in your own sub-forum like you did last year?

It looks correct to me, black side (port B) towards the gearbox end of the engine.

Re: Unusual boost leaks ?

Oh yes it was there, but just faulty. It was bypasssed (as per the first pic) and now holds boost to the redline. Last night I fitted a spare that i had (as would prefer for things to work as Toyota intended) and it did the same thing so seems like I have two faulty VTV's. Have just ordered a new one.

Re: Unusual boost leaks ?

It wasn't the recirc valve they bypassed but the VTV which helps control it.

Pic showing it bypassed.

And how it should be;

Re: Unusual boost leaks ?

So to bring this one to closure, and to help any other poor souls who end up battling with a similar issue...... My car ended up quite consistently building boost to around 14psi and then dropping to around 4psi between 5k -5.5k RPM. So after spending many an hour online researching, pressure testin...

Re: Can anyone recommend a driver friendly clutch?

I have a CenterForce Dual Friction clutch in both my MR2 and Supra and gives a little more grip and grab over stock without any change in pedal feel. https://www.centerforce.com/product/dual-friction-df905018-0006?gfid=p65046-c326784 I'm not sure if they are available in the UK, but easy enough to i...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Clutch problem.

Agreed with above, there is a leak somewhere most likely with one of the cylinders.

You may be able to get a rebuild kit for the master cylinder.

I did this last year.

They will fit fine with a little bit of bending. However you may want to read my observations of the turbo support bracket:

First part the guides say to 'take the dipstick tube retainer out', yeah ok, how the &*%% do you get to that nut? Honestly, if you are struggling with this simple task you either don't have the right skills or tools. It maybe an idea to stop now before you get in too deep and the frustration gr...
