If I remember correctly you can't access the rear lights from inside. The clear cover has to be levered off to gain access. Someone correct me if I'm wrong?
Good luck and keep fiddling with the lock and you may be lucky!
Cheers
Geoff

FOG LIGHTS
I had a similar problem some years ago and eventually drilled round the outside of the fixing screws. Ultimatley this made the fixing hole a little larger but I was able to get them off okay to replace a bulb. They fitted back on fine with a washer under the screw and have been there the last 8 year...

Re: [Mk2] [NA] Low coolant temperature
To test the gauge, with the ignition on you disconnect the engine temperature wire and earth it. The gauge should then read maximum. The sender units work by progressivley reducing the resistance as the temperature goes up. Mine was reading low and occassionaly fluctuating betweem 1/4 and 1/2 when o...

Re: [Mk2] [NA] No Gears When Engine is Cold
As a further thought I would check the oil level in the gearbox as in order to replace the cluch on an MR2 you need to drain the oil. It's not uncommon for a monkey to forget to refil the gearbox, I speak from experience! There is a filling bolt on the side of the gearbox but this is only accessible...

Re: For anyone who feels like cheaping out on HT leads...
I have to say that I purchased a set of Magnacor leads about 8 years ago for my N/A and they have been fine, no deterioration noticed at all. It does seem like you have had an unlucky experience. One possibility could be that the damage is external, a mouse or something? Not being funny but it does ...

Re: [Mk2] [NA] Brake problem
This is typically caused by water getting into the handbrake cable due to failure of the rubber bellows, by the calipers. In cold weather it freezes and you can't release the handbrake. It also causes corrosion and therefore stiffness in the handbrake for the same reason. The only real solution is t...

SPEAKER WHINE
Whilst of no help I am suffering exactly the same problem. It seems to be there even if I put the headunit on mute so would suggest its some kind of interfearance. My car is also NA T-Bar (Jan 1992) and has the active speaker system. I replaced my headunit some months ago and all has been fine until...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Coolant is foamy??
If I remember I ran my engine for a few seconds at one point to see what would happen and it flushed a lot of air out. I thought my head gasket had gone it was so bad but it did clear it after I bled it a few more times.
Good luck

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Disc Scoring
I had exactly the same issue. I think general dirt and corrosion form on the lip and excessive paint on the pad causes an excessivley tight fit. Same solution used the file on the lips and pad and all well. Common problem

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Coolant is foamy??
I had this when I replaced the radiator in a NA. It turned out I had not bled the system properly. If it's really foam it was the same as mine. keep bleeding and you may find the cure. Hope it's not anything more vserious.

Rocker box gasket N/A
For some time I have been losing a little oil and it's dripping onto the alternator so I need to fix it. Also getting some oil in the plug holes. Question is how, as with the N/A it seems like I have to split the inlet manifold to get at some of the screws. It's probably those that are leaking anywa...

Re: Winding In Rear Calliper Pistons
Don't forget if you wind them in you need to wind them out about 1.5 turns (others please check) as otherwise the handbreak won't work. Lots of discussions on this in the past. It's something to do with the internal mechanism of the handbrake at the back of the caliper. I don't really know the speci...

Re: Insurance insanity!!!
Likewise, a broker, but not cars. I wasn't being too specific just airing that insurers run considerable exposures that we don't often think about. Sadly as far as £ are concerned death is usually cheaper than very serious injury due to the medical costs and rehabilitation and cost to convert houses...

Re: Insurance insanity!!!
I work in the insurance industry, but not car insurance, and whilst we all moan about the cost of car insurance, me included, we need to sometimes think what the downside can be. The largest auto loss in history is in the UK. Remember the guy with the range rover and trailer who fell asleep on the m...

Re: [Mk2] [NA] REPLACING ORIGINAL ICE
Okay, finally success. By using a combination of PC9-406 and the PC9-451 together with splicing the two blue wires together all works well. I have endeavoured to get a more flush look by drilling new holes in the mounting bracket about 1/2" further forwards thus moving the head unti back by the...

I suspect you have the amp feed connected to the ignition live rather than through the head unit, but the wiring of these systems is odd!

Re: [Mk2] [NA] REPLACING ORIGINAL ICE
Okay a further update. The PC9-451 works fine and the head unit plays CD's. (and presumably USB and I-pod) as the unit works. Unfortunatley the radio ariel no longer operates so no radio! I seem to be one connector short as when I bridge the gap the radio ariel goes up and all seems to work. I presu...

Re: [Mk2] [NA] REPLACING ORIGINAL ICE
Many thanks for the number of autoleads which is really appreciated. I just spoke to them for confirmation and indeed you are absolutley correct. Apparently under the shrink wrap there is a tiny circuit board which actually reduces the output signal. It was the lack of visual components that threw m...
