re: running !
Well just an update, it works :D Thanks to Bob Hatton for sourcing the new bits I needed not to mention all his advice. Yes the new hub is a bit beefier. Thanks also to everyone else for their advice and offer of a backup plan! Only took a while due to me deciding which bits were and weren't damaged...

re: Gearbox
Thanks again for the suggestions, info and offers of parts. Current plan - I`m 90% sure I`m replacing the damaged bits with new - except for the end plate cover which could be a problem as it would add £200 to the cost! If I can`t do anything with the cover I will give you a shout Peter. Thanks abov...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Uh oh gearbox blown!
Well not looking great for the old box atm! Despite looking undamaged I've found 5th synchro is also bent. I'm guessing this would be the most expensive part and the total cost of parts would now be approaching a rebuilt box - and certainly more than getting a good second hand one - although looking...

re: gears
I'm pretty sure it can be turned as soon as the shift fork is removed but only anti clockwise and max about 90 degrees (maybe a bit more). The click is a small ballbearing which is pushed up against the shaft with a spring and a set screw in the trans casing. In the shaft there are notches in which...

re: update
Thanks again for all the replies and help. Just an update with some pics. So far so good - as you have all said the end bits of the gearbox come off without taking it out - however there`s still a few things I need to check first so can`t say for sure it won`t have to come out yet.... Anyway first p...

re: gearbox
Thanks for the replies!

Cool
there may be hope for it then
- if the end cap and the one gear is the only damage.

Will get the box out and have a look and a ring around.

Will post back with some info when I know more!

Thanks

Dom.

Cool

[Mk2] [Turbo] Uh oh gearbox blown!
Hi, this is on my 1993 Mk2 Rev2 Turbo Tintop. Had just left the dual carriageway, coming down the slip road and turned off my a/c and fan blower as I was nearly home - and heard a bit of a rattly squeal - not very loud - a bit like a clutch throwout bearing. Decided to pull over as soon as I was off...

re: sorted!
Well that wastegate was the reason for the late boosting. Mounted it a little further back and boost comes in at 2500 now, so I`m happy :D Down pipe is welded up for now but will go for a Berk when i get another. That Blitz idea is good but I think looking now just fiting a downpipe is probably easi...

re: turbo
Ah awesome thanks guys. Getting excited now - despite it being just a stock one, I know I should get my mid range back once the problems are sorted - power coming in at 4k isn`t suited to my lazy driving style! Will decide what to do with the downpipe - was easy to take off this time but I would ima...

re: turbo - lots more info :)
Hi, thanks so much for those links! After looking through them I went out and took the pipes and downpipe off to have a look for myself. I have a couple of measurements - they`re not precise - but to within a couple of mm - which I know isn`t too helpful when working out what turbo I have - but - al...

re: turbo
Hi, thanks for the replies. I`ve had a gud look on both sides and underneath and can`t find any labels on it - other than toyota ct26 on the housing. It looks like its going 2 b 1 of those mysteries until I take it off and get someone to look at it. It won`t have to be taken appart to tell what it i...

[Mk2] [Turbo] re: Stage 2 Hybrid CT26 spool
Hi. Well thanks to the info from on here my 93 Rev 2 turbo is all up and running and I`ve done a few hundred trouble free miles this past week. :thumleft: So, now I get to the bits I really don`t know anything about. This is the first time I`ve had a non standard MR2 turbo - my others were both stoc...

re: sorted
Well the car is still running fine so I think (well hope) it is sorted! Definitely seemed to be a combination of problems - a dodgy ECU and the plugs which it didn`t like. Yes, really helps having the cel bulb working - otherwise every slight probem ur wondering if the diagnostics would have given u...

re: plugs
Lol you won`t believe it - I looked at them this morning and thought - I`ll put some stock plugs in - (there were grade 8 NGK iridiums in it) - and it started and ran fine. Not building up my hopes yet as it has started before and then not the next day or even later in the day - but I have tried aga...

re: timing
Hi thanks for the reply. Yes I checked cam timing first thing. This was a few days ago - but since then it has run properly and badly. Just to check I`m doing it right - the crank pulley at zero and the marks on the cams (with the S and little dimple) pointing at the indentations on the back plate. ...

re: ecu
Hi, just an update. First thanks for the info - I will get my old one repaired. If the tracks were a bit further appart I would have a go myself doing it with wires if neccessary but I have a few friends who are way better at that stuff than me, so will ask them to have a go, though I c what u mean ...

re: ecu
Hi, yeah looking at ur thread, mine seems pretty bad.

I have got another one coming just in case
- though as you say no guarantees it won`t happen on that one too, so will replace the capacitors anyway.

Cheers,
Dom.

re: ecu
Lol. Cheers guys, yeah better get it sorted - possibly a bit too late for preventative maintenance! The only bit of hope for it is that it`s only borderline not working - somewhow it does sometimes work ok for a min or two, so maybe theres a chance it won`t be as bad as it looks once cleaned up. Tha...
