Re: manual choke conversion on sc

Staying off topic for a sec - No BP ultimate - the only place that does it charges 105p a litre. can get 99 ron tesco for less which the car likes. I'm just too fond of the "drink fuel pedal" Back on topic - Have you tried changing the wax stat? If you change the waxstat the car will stil...

Re: Front wing mastic/sealer

They are actually strips of rubber, you can get them from Toyota, don't know the part number but I got some a couple of months back. They have the holes cut ready to place under the wing edges HTH.

Re: 4GAE tuning for fast road use

This makes me feel old, when I was at Polytechnic we had BBC b computers and DOGS CAD. Everything else was worked out using pencil and paper, there was no software available so it was easier to do everything manually than write the software required. :D

Re: Neon interior install

And how do you wire it into there? I did have a look earlier this afternoon. There is a connector block going into it, and i dont want to take the dashboard apart to get to the wires Solder two wires onto each end of the lamp. These are then switched when you open your door. Connect whatever you wa...

Re: Neon interior install

Easiest place to get a switched live is from the light at the side of the speedo. This lights when the door is opened and can be popped out and wired into easily. I used it to power my leds in my footwells. You don't need any fuseboxes just tap into it :D

Re: Metal bumper strips

Agree with coverco here, it's the sort of job to do if your going the whole hog and taking the reinforcer off too, there's something like 8-10 bolts to undo and some will almost certainly shear off. I replaced the reinforcing bar on mine last year so wasn't too bothered that they didn't all come ou...

Re: Metal bumper strips

These are bolted into your bumper bars, the only place to get them really is Toyota. Just be aware that when you try to take out the old bolts some (well to be honest most) of them will shear off. You will then need to drill your bumper bar which will likely collapse, do not take on this job lightly...

Re: removing rear quaters

I bought a pair of rear quarters of Ebay last week. I phoned Toyota to get a price and was told they are no longer available. I have had loads of body panels from this dealer so when they say they are no longer available I suspect they are telling the truth. They did have the price listed as £253+VA...

Re: Dropped front splitter/lower bumper

The valances are not attached to the bumper bar, they are attached to the wing at one end and the crossmember under the radiator at the front, if the front crossmember has dropped you have real problems. I still say it doesn't look that bad, the picture MEM shows is taken from above, try taking a pi...

Re: Dropped front splitter/lower bumper

The gap you are talking about are the front valences and as I have just rebuilt my front end the picture looks normal to me. The lower bit is called the splitter and is plastic, behind the number plate is the grille, which is plastic and the two pieces that connect to the wing are the metal valances...

Re: Looking for a MK1 - happy medium between immaculate/rust-bucket?

There is a MK1 in the Yorkshire Autotrader today, its in York. it has full service history and looks tidy, they want £800. I have not seen it and I realise York is a long way but they do exist. It is not on the website but I can get the number if it helps.

Re: Looking for a MK1 - happy medium between immaculate/rust-bucket?

The bumper bar is not structural as the car can be run without it. It is not exposed so can not hurt a pedestrian if you hit them, therefore it is not an MOT failure. It is like having a rusty front wing this is not an MOT failure as long as there are no sharp edges showing, that is why we get away ...

Re: Looking for a MK1 - happy medium between immaculate/rust-bucket?

Yes I think it is the bumper bar, sorry I'm getting parts mixed up  I guess it would still be an MOT failure with it rotted? The guy was asking £800 for it with a wedge of MOT's and touch under 100k on the clock belived to be genuine. Had a new oem exhaust fitted fairly recently and the clutch...

Re: Looking for a MK1 - happy medium between immaculate/rust-bucket?

A new bumper bar is around £100 including VAT from Toyota. Replacing the bar is easy, you need to remove four bolts. However these bolts can be a pig to get off, and to get at them you need to remove the bumper which will be a real pain. There are a series of nuts at the top and bottom of the bumper...

Re: Neons

When I did this I used the courtesy light at the right of the speedo. If you use a small screwdriver you can prise this light out, there are two wires one is a live and the other is a switched earth connected to the door switches, you can use these wires to power your under dash lights :D
