Re: Clutch Problem (Hydralic)

I have recently seen the same problem on my sons MK1a,it first showed itself with difficulty in bleeding the clutch after a clutch change. Then later that week he noticed the oil on the drivers side carpet, it was the master cylinder seals. i ended up fitting a second hand unit as i couldnt find a ...

Re: I got problems

IMO the hunting is more likely to be an air lock in your coolant system than a problem with the AAV, so bleed the system. It could well be air in the system, but this would indicate it's the AAV causing the problem. It only hunted a little this morning and when i put my finger over the hole it stop...

Re: I got problems

Thats a nice little test that. I had a little read of the manual aswell. So m i right in thinking that when idling, even when hot some of the air is meant to go via the AAV. It only huned a little this morning and when i put my finger over the hole it stopped. Whats really really annoying is that i...

Re: Leather Gear Knob

You're lucky you don't want blue. Toyota have discontinued all interior blue parts for the Mk1. I got Rhon to cover mine. I thought that cars with blue interiors still had a black gear knob. And it is nice to see that Toyota have come to their senses, blue interiors should have been discontinued 20...

Re: I got problems

Also with regards to grease used on the moving parts, again I dissagree. You can not use any old grease. Some greases react with rubber and will cause premature perishing. Also some greases will become a solid substance (turn to a powdery substance) if subjected to high temps. Best to use white lit...

Re: I got problems

Contact Paul Woods to find out how much the kit is, mine cost about £60, it is probably worth doing a search on Twobrutal, as there is an alternative, which is a VSV aircon valve from a MK2 MR2. When you replace your front discs just make sure all the mating faces are clean, I have never checked run...

Re: I got problems

The only way to cure the silly idle at start up is to fit a Manual Choke by Paul Woods. The engine hunting could be a coolant problem, if there is air in the system the engine revs will go up and down for no apparent reason, try bleeding the system, there is a write up in the Knowledge base. Also ch...

I have just changed my clutch myself, I would not recommend it to anyone, it is a pig on your own, but it is doable. I paid £62 for a Ferodo 3 piece kit, so nice new clutch for £62 :D

Re: Quick Warning: Clocked Mk1 on eBay

Well I disagree, I think mileage is important. My Mk1a was great until it hit the 120k mark. Then everything went wrong after that. My mk1b is nearly immaculate with genuine 64k on clock when I bought it. If it had over 100k I wouldnt have bought it, based on the fact I knew something may happen in...

Re: Quick Warning: Clocked Mk1 on eBay

I agree that displayed mileage on a 20 year old car is unimportant. Personally I would prefer to see over 100000 miles on a 20 year old car as it shows it has been driven. As we all know the biggest problem on our cars is rust, engines are reasonably easy and cheap to replace. Assuming the HPI repor...

Re: Front wing replacement

I did both of mine earlier in the year, the only hard bit are the bolts which attach the bumper and valance to the wing. Mine were rusted solid and ended up having to dremel them off. It really is straightforward but be prepared for rusted solid bolts and you may shear some, especially the one at th...
