Re: ProThane Suspension Bush Kits
Have a word with your local supplier. You'll need the full AW11 kit which excludes the bushes for the rear ARB (anti roll bar or "sway bar" I think you merkins call it...). Then you'll need the rear ARB bushes dependant on the age of the car - early cars (85-87) had a smaller diameter ARB ...

Re: Clips missing from front pads?
If the pads don't fit with the retaining springs in place, it's often because of the pwder coating on the metal backing of the pad being too thick or the calliper carrier has corroded causing the clips to reduce in size. A metal file on either the carrier or the pad quickly resolves the problem :thu...

Re: Clips missing from front pads?
Fair Doo's Chris. My post was based on personal experience. I have never seen the pad wear indicators on any callipers that use the same pad as the AW11 fronts (AW11, AE92, AE82, AE111, Carina etc...) Most modern pads don't use 4 anti-squeel shims anymore either - the vented shims are old hat mate :...

Re: Spare Engine connectors near alternator
On some 1a (or crossover looms) there are two spare connectors on the loom above the altenator. Neither are needed. Paul, it's a dark blue connector and a fair distance away from the TVIS VSV connector which is under the inlet manifold. @ OP, Forget about these two connectors, they are no needed :th...

Re: Clips missing from front pads?
Pad clips are as follows: 4 x retaining clips for each calliper (they do not indicate a low pad), 2 x "space-out" springs for the front pads. The rear pads have a low pad indicator attached to them which when touching the discs will squeel. The front's don't have this as you can tell the a...

I forgot about the bite point adjustment. Really need to sort mine out as it's way too high for my liking

Re: Clutch Question
Generally if a clutch slips you can smell it quite clear, although in MR cars it's more difficult to smell if you're driving at the time, but you should still be able to smell it once you get out the car. Sometimes the plate can get quite hot and the clutch can feel spongy or if slipped for s short ...

Standard discs with EBC Redstuff for road use (and/or occasional track) is a good combo

Re: Clutch Question
My 1a track car had a high bite on the clutch when I first got it. During a recent engine swap I figured I may as well replace it with a new clutch.
It wasn't needed, but done nonetheless as I had the part. It still bites fairly high.
When it was slipping, could you smell it?

strange, as we love the ebc yellowstuff on our mk1a track car :thumleft: never had any fade, and driven hard round most uk and some euro circuits. used braided lines, dot 5.1, well refurbed calipers. top job  they aren't perfect on my runs to work, but you get used to their feel when cold ...

Looking through my receipts the current droplinks on my track car are apparently Toyota OEM from TCB. 7 month hard track use and they're still good

Re: 4age 20v Blacktop?
It is a straight fit, but you may need a suitable (AW11) gearbox if the engine/box is sourced from a Corolla. You'll also need the wiring loom & ECU as well as "customise" the cooling pipes and expansion bottle. I think the cooling pipes/expansion bottle from the Corolla could be used....

Never heard of them... Until now. They're listed on ebay for circa £50 an axle?? For that money, go to EBC Redstuff - I'd imagine they will be tons better I never got on with Greenstuff. Utter pants even on my "light" road use:-: Redstuff were OK on the road and just about OK on 1b brakes ...

After numerous ebay sets and a set of the SBITS ones, I now use Toyota :thumleft: Although saying that, even though the SBITS's ones started rattling a couple of days in, they were still good for a few years. The problem is the SBITS ones are not designed for road use although if you cover the ball-...
