Re: Windscreens
As myself and others have found out, no matter which company changes the windscreen, always do the following before the old windscreen is removed: * make sure the new windscreen is the correct tint * make sure the new windscreen has the sunvisor if you want one (optional) * make sure the new windscr...

Re: Mr2 mk2 : stock wheels and possible boot leak
I first got into the MR2 scene back in 2000 and there were quite a few rev2/3 cars around then. Back then (but not in recent years!) the easiest way to tell them apart was the rear spoiler, rear lights and wheels. The rev2 split rear wing/spoiler, square rear lights and 14 inch wheels. The newest on...

Re: Mr2 mk2 : stock wheels and possible boot leak
There were 3 tyoes of stock wheel depending on the year, the original rev1 circa 90/91 had 14 inch wheels rev2+ upto 98 had the normal flat 5 spokes in 15 inch and the rev5 had a different design 15 inch The rev2 had 14 inch wheels as standard. A mod by rev2 owners to make the car look like a rev3 ...

Re: Agreed Value Insurance Question
I agree with JimGTS. The insurance paperwork must make it crystal clear it for an "agreed value" and not just an insured value. Otherwise any claims will be settled based on what the insurer thinks is market value (can of worms that valuation game). I guess that if a policy has standard cl...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Bad Fuel Economy ? potential issue ?!
FYI MR2 MK11 has a 55 litre (12 gallon) tank True but some of that is not usable. The reserve light comes on when it takes about 40 ltrs to fill the tank. (dont assume the reserve light will always work). Not usable? [-( The light is simply a low level light. There is no 'reserve' tank. I actually ...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Bad Fuel Economy ? potential issue ?!
An easy consistent 30mpg seems high. You must have a light foot or a car eager to please!. I am no racing driver, and I am no slouch either (which seems to annoy some drivers of beemers and audis that expect an old mr2 turbo to be slow and get shown different  ) Go back about 10 years and ...

Not sure how many countries have freeways.... but for 100km/hr that is a 2% tolerance... I did not think car speedos were that accurate? (instrumentation errors and va...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Bad Fuel Economy ? potential issue ?!
A standard power rev3 turbo should easily do 10 km/ltr even driving on fun A/B roads. I always fill up to a full tank usually with cheap supermarket super unleaded. Usually my 40 ltrs fill up (when my reserve light used to come on) would give 400-440 km on the trip meter. That is 250-274 miles. Easy...

Re: Tin top owners - any regret over lack of T-Bar?
To be fair I have never driven a tintop so cannot compare chassis flex with a tbar. I have had 2 tbar cars and one seemed to flex more than the other so it was much slower to drive... and that was caused by very tired original shocks that still passed an mot. I am not aware of chassis flex driving o...

Re: Fog Lamps working, but not moving with the steering
That sounds more like a bad connection from a broken/corroded wire or connector when it is intermittent and then stops working. I dont how the control box is wired - if there is a chance you could have swapped a couple of wires over then try the switch in the down position as the easiest thing to tr...

I think looking at the roof panel that this was probably not the original for the car and it has been replaced at some point as it does sit so high up, even with eccentric rod guides in both the A and B pillars and also on the panel itself My old car was like that... I dont think that is the cause ...

Re: [Mk2] [Generic] Getting the Electric Aerial to Work
Dont forget to take a look at the circuit board inside the box attached to the aerial mast motor. Some of them get water on the circuit board and don't work. While you are there... check the aerial motor housing has a drain tube attached that actually goes through the hole in the boot floor otherwis...

Re: Urgent, best place for rear calipers
Some rebuilt rear callipers have problems with the handbrake mechanism. Pot luck if you get ones that work for long. I have had one that didnt work at the time of fitting so got replaced by a working one under warranty. I have had a pair that needed adjusting many times a year (even after one of the...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Costs of 500hp
Thanks for the replies to my post. I agree with you, but was just raising awareness that some people may not be aware how tired some of the suspension is (even on a low mileage example), and to consider it when trying to improve the performance of the car. The mr2 on decent (stock) suspension can be...

Re: footwell leak!!!
Below the glove box there is also a black plastic trim on the edge of the carpet and door shut. That trim has an inner piece at the top that slots into the trim above it. If it not fitted properly then any water that gets passed the A pillar rubber at the top of the door shut by the wing mirror can ...

Re: footwell leak!!!
There is a rubber weather strip that runs around the door near the seams. When the door is open you should see a dirty line where that weather strip contacts the car body. You should be able to follow it from the A pillar, down and right the way around the the B pillar. If you dont have that dirty l...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Costs of 500hp
With the mr2 , it's not the type of car you can just throw around .... Why not? Should be able to throw it around quite nicely on roads with half decent tyres and shocks. When I got my current car it was slower than the previous mr2 turbo cos the shocks/tyres meant it could not hold the same line a...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Rev 2 Turbo. Bonnet will not open when pulling hardly on release catch
As the bonnet is lifting up a bit eventually, the lever must be releasing the lock. Sounds like the spring that pushes the bonnet up has become weak or maybe the mechanism/spring is covered in crap which is giving the mechanism/spring some resistance to movement. (The drive to work maybe hit a bump ...
