IMO the ct20b on my car was getting pretty tired so I bit the bullet and decided to change it before it failed. Had about 120,000 miles on the clock. Dont know if it was the orginal turbo, but the car had 40,000 miles on the clock when I got it. (tacho is still in km and I did the miles conversion)....

Mine was like that... changed the gear oil a couple of times helped for a while. What made the biggest difference was fitting a new clutch. Dont know why but it felt like a new gear box!

Toyota still supply the proper parts for old MR2 imports that age. worth a try if you want something that fits properly

I get mine done at micheldever tyres and not had a problem with the alignment. Not sure if I still have a printout of the alignment settings.
