Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] A/C Regas

Why not just get it done with the new approved stuff?

Mate had their mr2 re-gassed this year by their local Toyota dealer and not had any problems.

Re: What Rev is my 1994 Turbo Jap Import? And what oil?

My guess would be rev3, but need to see pics of exterior, interior and engine bay to be sure.

I once saw a Rev 2 on an M reg. Dunno how they managed that!

Re: Lowering springs on old dampers question

I have never had to replace the springs.
First mr2 did over 205,000 miles.
Second mr2 is just about to go over 200,000 km / 124,000 miles.

Did have to do the top mounts on the first car eventually.

Re: Lowering springs on old dampers question

I have had 2x 94 rev3 turbos so maybe not the same shocks as the rev1 na but the following might give you some idea how long shocks last on these cars. On one car the original toyota shocks lasted 9 years and did 60,000 miles when one side started leaking and failed mot. The replacement fronts did 6...

Re: sound dampening advice

well, looks like ive got plans for my days off haha... tbh my rev 4 isnt too noisy, only road noise from rough tarmac roads.. I also put some of the sound deadening foam sheets behind firewall, behind seats, and that made a small difference, altho 1 cm is max thickness really, as its difficult to p...

Re: sound dampening advice

This car has always had a lot of noise from the engine bay and vibrations through the boot lid and doors. (nobody can work out why and it drives really well and does lots of miles. Its like its been apart and not put back together with all the washers/bushes etc although nothing seems to be missing ...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] handbrake issue

.... If this makes no difference then a rebuild of the calipers and new cable would be the next step. TBH though if the rear wheels are spinning freely with the handbrake off and the handbrake is working when applied then I wouldn't worry too much about it :) If buying rebuilt rear callipers, be wa...

Re: [Mk2] [NA] Rev 5 fast road car - Strut options, konis?

Some of the main roads around here are so bad the last time I replaced shocks I got oem all round. Even the newly resurfaced/widened roads are really bumpy. I dont just mean pothole patches, I mean when they do the whole thing as well. They used to be able to do some really good road surfaces so don...

Re: Heating control centre panel

Sometimes Toyota change designs mid-production run (eg aerial units on rev3 turbos). Not sure about the import climate control units... I have had 2 cars with these and one does just what I want and other kinda mucks about for a while and is less responsive with the temperature control. :-k Both uni...

Re: Wheel Alignment / Vibrator Issues

Had the wheels balanced Had the alignment front and back done Tramlining is no longer that much of an issue at all and generally the car feels much more stable. However the steering wheel shakes / vibrates a ridiculous amount at 65 - 70mph, anything below is fine. Any ideas what this could be? real...

Re: Leather Seat Bolster Repair

I have a seam on the driver side bolster of a cloth recaro that has worn through and made a hole. Looking at it closely, that side panel has already been replaced before as it is definitely a different material and not just faded. The original material is colour faded so it will be difficult to colo...

Re: Speaker upgrade advice

13cm speakers are generally sized to fit most makes of cars to replace oem speakers so usually no need to cut bigger holes in door cards to fit them or use spacers. I guess it also depends how loud you want the sound before the speakers deliver their best performance. Remember it is a small space in...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Oils

I have a translated MR2 owners manual and for the mr2 turbo it says 10w30 or 20w40 for engine oil. Places that do my servicing use 10w40. A couple of years ago the Mobil 1 website used to recommend New Life 0w40 for an MR2 turbo. Just had a look and they don't make a recommendation and just give a p...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] General Handling Set up

You need to give more info on what sort of road conditions and speeds you are having problems with and how the car is reacting. Is it the front end or back end or both that is handling worse? Is it accelerating or braking? Is it corner entry or corner exit? Is it adverse road camber changes? etc etc...

Re: [Mk2] [Generic] Steering fogs not changing direction

I have had the situation where they don't turn properly. I think it is where a garage has not had the wheels pointing straight ahead when they have disconnected the battery and the fog lights system gets confused about what is straight ahead aligned with the wheels which in turn messes up how far it...

Re: Wich front strut bar should i keep?

Toyota did 2 versions of the stock front strut brace - the visual difference being whether it mounted to the front or back bolt on the strut towers. They were interchangeable on some cars but not others (it depends on which oem windscreen washer motor assembly is fitted). I have had one of each and ...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Recommendations for a alarm system

Ive come to the conclusion that i will buy the ai606 and install myself (price aprox £120) then if need be i will get it certified by a local dealer. It seems a lot cheaper doing it that way. Don't know who your insurers are but the ones that have insured my car have all wanted to see a certificate...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Recommendations for a alarm system

Some insurers require a certificate to prove an alarm/immoibiliser has been properly fitted otherwise the car wont be insured for theft. I once had an insurer threaten to cancel my policy as the seller lost the certificate in the few days between me test driving the car and collecting it after payme...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Recommendations for a alarm system

When the old alarm system is removed make sure both doors lock and unlock correctly from both key locks before the new alarm is fitted otherwise some weird things can happen later.
