Re: Oil Leak MR2 Turbo

If your going to do the cam bolts and gasket anyway do that first, don't forget a little RTV sealant in the corners of the three cam caps. Clean the underside with brake cleaner and inspect after a few miles. Rear crank seal is gearbox off, the seal itself is easy to change. Thanks for the info. Ap...

Re: Oil Leak MR2 Turbo

Thanks. I've taken another look and was wondering about that flywheel cover as mine is a bit bent in shape so not a flush finish where it's bolted on. Crankshaft seal sounds expensive if that's the case :( How easily fixed is that? Checking the flywheel cover I think the oil could be dopping as you ...

Oil Leak MR2 Turbo

Evening all I recently picked up a MR2 Turbo and there is oil dropping from what I believe to be off the right hands side of the gearbox. Photo attached of the area where the oil is dripping from: http://i305.photobucket.com/albums/nn216/madaboutmx5s/IMG_4299.jpg In the photo the oil is dripping fro...

Re: The Ramblings and Diary of a Japanese Car Enthusiast

Got to spend a little time with the MR2 mainly giving it a clean and having a poke around it to get to know it better. Having been away from a MK2 MR2 for so long I had forgotten how light the steering feel is and general pointy nature from the front. A bit of a clean up - http://i.imgur.com/9ViNvvt...

Re: The Ramblings and Diary of a Japanese Car Enthusiast

Looks like you ended up with a nice car anyway, so maybe it was for the best. It needs some TLC but seems to have had a fair bit done over the last few years. It is nice to have another MR2. Photo of the interior - it has full black leather seats in pretty good condition - sadly missing the mr2 fac...

Re: Back in a MR2 - Madabout's MR2 Turbo

I had put an offer on one which was accepted and then the seller sold to someone who offered more while I also agreed a deal on another one after Christmas only for the seller to phone me 2 days before collecting that he didn't want to sell. Aren't people just azzholes sometimes?? Had buyers mess m...

The Ramblings and Diary of a Japanese Car Enthusiast

Evening All, Seeing as I have joined here and taking a regular look of the forum thought I would post some photos and background into my new MR2 and my passion for Japanese cars. I got first MR2 around 1999/2000 when I was at university (a MK2 REV2 G-Limited T-Bar). I got into MR2's as my step-dad w...

Re: Rusty sills on a MR2 Turbo

The main thing thing you'll find is that no matter how perfect the outer sill looks.... once you pop your head / phone with flash on behind the rear speaker cover you'll see the inner box is rotten unless you're VERY lucky. Yes I reckon if I buy this car and get it up on the ramps and the skirts of...

Thanks Nic. Explains why on my mx5s they also sometimes go through the non-cat test as the chassis number doesn't match the listings.

Re: MR2 Turbo and De-Cat Question

Please post the MOT legislation that states this please Based on my info this is what I based it on. https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/542070/in-service-exhaust-emission-standards-for-road-vehicles-18th-edition.pdf I don't claim to be an expert on this hence ...

MR2 Turbo and De-Cat Question

For the MR2 Turbo model as it was never sold in the U.K. and is not on the MOT car database am I right in believing an MOT centre can't put it through as a cat test up until 1st August 1995? after that regardless from my understanding everything needed a cat. I've done some research and get mixed in...

Re: 1992 Eunos Roadster

Nice work on the roadster project. Good fun cars and some nice work on yours. When I got into Japanese cars approx 20 years ago as a kid picking cars up from the docks it was the mx5 and mr2s I liked most. Had a few mr2s (looking for another) but kept with the mx5s and currently have a variety of MK...

Whenever I've had cars mapped I've gone with someone who knows the car and who has mapped the Ecu before. Messing around any other way hasn't worked for me.

Re: Rusty sills on a MR2 Turbo

Thanks mate for the feedback and taking the time to provide the info. The car I'm looking at is from I can see crawling underneath and checking the sills rotten on the driver side at the rear by the wheel so needs full inner sill and outer sill rebuilt. With the skirt in the way difficult to see fur...

Re: How bad is rust?

I'm looking at a MR2 where sills need doing both sides. Surprised at the lack of repair panels on offer as thought I'd be able to find lots of options, sellers.

Re: Rusty sills on a MR2 Turbo

There will be plenty of surface rust on the inner sill and there are also reinforcement box sections that will require some rot cutting out and fabbing up. The lip for the floor for the outer sill to weld to will be solid. The rear inner arch will likey need work as might the front end behind the w...

Re: Rusty sills on a MR2 Turbo

Thanks chaps for the quick replies. Appreciated. If I buy this mr2 and those outer sills does anyone do the full length inner sills or is it a case of getting handy and making good the inner sills? Am i right in thinking bubbly or rotten outer sill means goosed inner sill? I've a friendly mechanic w...
