Re: The Ramblings and Diary of a Japanese Car Enthusiast

Outside of the arch has now had the new panel welded in so Reworx will now move on to repairing and replacing the inner arch.

Some updates on progress.

Re: The Ramblings and Diary of a Japanese Car Enthusiast

Progress on my MR2. Since I bought the end of January 2017 I have not used the car as been gathering parts waiting for an improvement plan on the car. It is in getting some TLC with RE-Worx a RX7 Specialist I know who has carried out previous welding and fabrication work for me. I bought this car kn...

Nice one. I sold mine before prices went up. Classic iconic cars.

Re: The Ramblings and Diary of a Japanese Car Enthusiast

Yeah that was a long time ago . I didn't get involved in the mechanical side although I was based in the design office at IAD. The designers ran some interesting motors, Renault 5 Turbo II (mid engined) being one of them - LOUD and fun to be in. Also a porsche 928 and pre '89 911 stuff like that. W...

Speedo Sender Wiring - which wiring loom?

Quick Question I need some help with please.

On the rev3 electronic speedo sender on the gearbox what loom is the wiring g plug attached to? Is it the passenger side loom or engine loom (or something else)?

Thanks in advance.

Re: The Ramblings and Diary of a Japanese Car Enthusiast

great thread. quite a collection of mx5s you have there - back in '87 I was a photographer working for a company in Worthing called IAD who did a lot of initial work on the mk1 during initial design phase. got to drive the car pre launch which was fun. I love my '2 but have always hankered after an...

Re: The Ramblings and Diary of a Japanese Car Enthusiast

A little bit of time to myself this weekend and not raining the whole time so did a few jobs on the MR2. 1. On reading on here it seems Toyota fitted foam in the sills and also down in the sides of the boot. I removed the side panels in the car and found the passenger one had already been removed bu...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Speedo

I have bought a UK speedo with pretty much the same mileage as my car today as a spare. Probably a useful spare to have I thought.

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Speedo

I've been looking into this as thinking of changes to my rev3 turbo. This is what I have found out: 1. Rev2 onwards as mentioned electronic - above info on overlays, etc. fit with what I've done on other Japanese imports. 2. I'm thinking of a genuine UK speedo (as mentioned would need to change spee...

Re: The Ramblings and Diary of a Japanese Car Enthusiast

This is going to be a good one!!!! Might be worth popping off the rear bumper and looking at that section for rust along with the inner sill just so you have no surprises come welding time! Thanks. I have not used it since getting it but there is a parts gathering process going on. I am going to us...

Re: Picking Up Today - Hopefully

Nice looking MR2. I always think they look good in white. I am just back in a MR2 myself.

Looks like you are down the road from me and where you took the photos similar to my old haunting ground - Langshott/Horley.

Enjoy the new car.

Re: JDM Import Rev 2 Turbo - Megasquirt install. Anti lag. 2 step.

I'm afraid I cannot help with the question but good luck with the project. I've just got a Rev3 mr2 turbo and mainly into my mx5s including some high powered turbo'd, supercharged amongst them. Mine is a bit of a project too. If you need the outer sills I think the seller on eBay is MR2-Ben. Has a w...

Re: The Ramblings and Diary of a Japanese Car Enthusiast

I found the phillips screws for holding cam cover were loose. I changed these out for the MR2-Ben cam cover bolts and while I was at it fitted a new cam cover gasket, throttle body gasket and and dizzy o-ring seal. I would definitely recommend the mr2-Ben bolts over the phillips screws. http://i.img...

Re: Oil Leak MR2 Turbo

To hopefully bring some conclusion to this in case anyone else has similar and seeks advice through the search function. I replaced the cam cover gasket, dizzy o-ring, fitted MR2-Ben cam cover bolts and a throttle body gasket. When I removed the throttle body I noticed this gasket was missing and on...

Re: Oil Leak MR2 Turbo

Good call doing the cam cover gasket, it's worthwhile doing if even it wasn't the source of your current oil leak. My Rev 3 turbo has multiple oil leaks, one was cam cover, one was from the stock oil cooler which sits under the exhaust manifold, one is from the main crank seal, one might be turbo f...

Re: I found another mr2 with missing MOT mileage. Clocked back maybe?

Sounds to me like the car has been off the road for whatever reason and on getting refurbished for road use again has had a 2nd hand speedo set finished. If the seller states about 90k this ties in with the original mileage and what's on there now plus any miles since MOT. When I've been looking for...

Re: Oil Leak MR2 Turbo

The engine was rebuilt about 8000 miles ago and whilst no receipts the rest of the spec checks out so hoping it is something simple. I am going to fit the new cam cover gaskets with the mr2-ben stainless steel bolts to replace the phillips screws as these were a little loose. I will also replace the...

Re: The Ramblings and Diary of a Japanese Car Enthusiast

Thanks for the welcomes. It needs some TLC but for what I paid can invest a bit of time and money getting it right. Overall it seems quite solid. The previous owner has undercoated behind the front wings, greased up lots of parts like the suspension, fitted some new polybushes in places, powdercoate...
