Re: MR2 MK1 EVO magazine ICON feature
I just cancelled my Evo subscription after many, many years as I get car 3 mags a month plus the Citroenian and I just don't have time to get through them all any more. As I seem to have lost all interest in modern cars, especially the incremental evolution of various Porsches, Mercs, Beemers and Mc...

Re: What clutch?
Typical - I order an Exedy clutch kit and I get a Korean brand called Seco
Anyone know anything about them? I expect to know what I am paying for.

Thanks everyone. Looks like the Exedy kit is the one for me.

What clutch?
I need to fit a new clutch to my Mk1b so I can refit the engine and gearbox back in the car. Are there any particular brands to look for/avoid or are they all pretty much the same? Based on price alone the Exedy 3-piece kit seems solidly mid-range so currently leaning that way... I just want a good ...

Re: Front Koni inserts mk1
My first set of rear KYB inserts didn't fit; they were too long for the strut casings and too narrow. I assumed I was given Mk1A items instead of the Mk1B inserts I needed. On explaining the problem to the supplier and my theory as to why they didn't fit they sent me replacements that that did. I ha...

Re: Oil pump removal
If you mean the oil seal, that is a separate part to the pump and can be bought separately. As for the pump housing, so long as it is not holed or warped it ought to be re-useable. They very rarely fail so if you cannot stretch to a new Toyota pump (no idea what they cost) I'd get a second hand Toyo...

Re: Oil pump removal
The oil pump is secured to the oil baffle by the RTV seal. This would have to be cut to allow the pump the slide off the crankshaft. Don't order a new pump until you have checked the old one. My engine had done 130k and the pump wasn't even worn so unless it has been butchered at some point I find i...

Re: Freehand Drawing of my Mk1
Wow, that is impressive! I would love to have that sort of skill. There is a sad lack of decent Mk1 art about. I harbour dreams of commissioning Tim Layzell to do a picture of a Mk1 streaking down a country lane or Japanese street but given his subjects include Ferrari GTO's and the like I doubt he'...

Re: Cambelt Cog
By cambelt cog wheel do you mean the cam gears or the pulley on the main crank? The pulley has two threaded holes on the spokes to take a puller and the cam gears can usually be prised off with a proper pry bar then a puller as already suggested.

Re: Best winter tyre
As a regular user of winter tyres (albeit not on the MR2 as it is still in bits) I'd say just go with it. They will massively out-perform normal tyres once temperature drops below 7C. I currently have Nokians for the FRP and used Pirelli Snowcontrols on the Panda 100HP previously. Both cars out perf...

+1 for Redline MT90
Just make sure you can undo the filler nut on top of the gearbox before you drain the existing oil out of the bottom as stated in the write-up!

Re: Air intake ducting
Thanks guys. No danger of troubling the Style et Luxe anytime soon - 2020 maybe. Been at it for 5 years so far! At least I am able to start putting things back on - at least where I can remember where they go. I got the fuel tank plumbed in and I am now deciding what to do with the engine. Fuel tank...

Air intake ducting
Has anyone got a picture of the air intake pipework below the resonator? I want to see if I've put mine back together right. It currently looks like this:
Does that look right?

Re: Handbrake Cable Bellcrank Disassembly
I'm not sure I follow what you are referring to. However, if it is the forward bracket with the bellcrank attached you are hoping to dismantle, I looked into this but couldn't work out ho to get the mechanism apart. In the end I used electrolysis to remove the rust and then had the part plated as is...

Nice find - gotta love the 308; one of the most beautiful Ferraris ever IMO.
What's with the 2-spoke steering wheel in the MR2 though? I'm pretty sure all the Mk1As I've seen had a 3-spoke wheel unless my mind is playing tricks with me?

Re: rear caliper operation question
The first one is operating correctly I would think. On the Mk1 caliper there is a large external spring that serves to retract the piston again when the handbrake is released:
