Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Rear wheel camber when lowered on springs only.

I'm only just down the road from centregravity, hadn't heard of them before ... Looked on their site, everything looks great and very proffessional - email them for a quote ... gulp .... Schedule Tyre data check and adjust Pre load car with weight Geometry check and adjust Test drive Before and aft...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Rear wheel camber when lowered on springs only.

Lowering the car will increase negative camber. You can alleviate it by getting eccentric camber bolts installed (and getting a full geo alignment). Obviously I would wait until getting your new suspension and then get the full geo. I would recommend wheelsinmotion - Had my car aligned there a few m...

Re: What is this sensor???

Nothing will leak but it will be harder to start from cold. Mine has broken and I need to to turn the engine over twice to get it to start in the morning. Easy (and cheap) way to connect one of the wires to a switch that toggles between 40k and 80k Ohms. Switch it to 40k when cold and 80k when warm....

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Fitting XS-Power Intercooler and GTS-Chris Shroud and Fan

The XS power intercooler is actually bigger and much deeper. I've had one for 3 years and have had no problems so far. Fitting one is a bit tricky though and the hose and clamps that came with it arn't great - I'm not sure whether they've addressed this issue since.

Re: Border Front Bumper

I used to have them in the bumper but I only used tie-wraps to secure them  . Theyre removed now until I make some proper brackets. Anyway this is how they looked. It woulld probably look better if the fog lights were set further back but I'm not sure how much room there is behind them. http:/...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Loud Whining Noise Like Fan belt slipping and service

The squeeling will be either the AC belt or more likely the alternator belt. Both of these can be tensioned from up top. I would advise tensioning the alternator belt first as this is the usual suspect. You need to undo a locknut to be able to pivot the alternator. Then you can access a 12mm hex tha...

Re: [Mk2] [Generic] Steering gaitors - Do I need to remove the tie rod?

Thanks for the reply - could you clarify what you mean by breaking the joint? do you mean the toe adjustment lock nut? When I do this will I be able to undo the track rod all the way (presumably by rotating the inner track rod anti-clockwise?).

Cheers

[Mk2] [Generic] Steering gaitors - Do I need to remove the tie rod?

I'm about to replace the steering rack gaitors as they split causing my MOT to fail :(

Do I need to remove the rie rod end completely from the axle hub or is there a way I can slide the gaitor on by disassembling the tie rod from the rack only?

Re: Timing gun

I bought exactly the same one off ebay last week. It works perfectly :D

You can get (+) from the fuse box under the rubber red cap and a (-) from any good bolt in the engine bay (I used one of the screws earthing the side panels to the engine bay).

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] When clutch engages it makes a funny high pitched whirring/humming

I've had this noise for ages even after fitting a new clutch. It hasn't got any louder or quieter over the 2 years I've had it, but I'm told it could be the thrust bearing.

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] What does a turbo timer do exactly?

It's not supposed to cool the turbo down, it's actually the oil in the immediate vicinity of the turbo that needs to cool down. As you can imagine the oil here is extremely hot and shutting off the engine stops the oil flowing. The rapid cooling of the oil around the turbo can cause the oil to "...

Re: fitting longer wheel studs for spacers

Hi Harry - those look great!

I take it you attach the spacer to the hub via the original wheel nuts. Then you attach the wheel to the spacer using the supplied bolts and nuts?

Damn good idea whoever thought of that! =D>

They're at both ends - one end is linked to the strut (about 15cm above the hub) and the other is linked at the ARB. You should be able to feel movement if they are worn.

Re: Awesome manifold

Yes the turbine spins due to pressure difference which is what causes air to flow from the high pressure region (manifold) to the low pressure region (downpipe). However you won't get the turbine spinning very fast by blowing cold air through it - when its heated however the pressure increases in di...
