Re: [Mk2 Turbo] Turbo VSV Operation

Allan, yep Rev2.

VSV is connected and all of the hoses are tight/intact.

The dash coolant sensor was replaced three weeks ago.

Re: What gear oil?

Also - make sure you undo the filler bolt first. If you bleed the box then find you can't refill it you'll feel a right numpty. #-o

Re: What gear oil?

Mine is on 75/90 semi synth. Changing it is time-consuming but not difficult. You'll need two new aluminium washers from Toyota and it's usually worth getting the bolts too. Get a length of hose and a funnel to fill it with. Mine took 3.75 litres. Toyota will tell you it takes 2.6 (wrong - that's th...

[Mk2 Turbo] Turbo VSV Operation

I'm getting a flat 0.5-0.6 bar boost in every gear (car standard but for induction, decat and Blitz ECU).

I thought the Turbo-VSV was supposed to limit boost in first/second?

I know my coolant temp sensor is dead - could that be preventing the VSV doing it's thing? :-k

Re: Hesitation when cold...

Come to think of it, I think my sensor does look a bit worse for wear. Is it the white'ish one near to the turbo side, quite accesable? Follow the coolant filler/pressure cap down to the engine block. There are two sensors there, a blue one toward the back of the car (dash temp sensor) and one towa...

Re: Hesitation when cold...

Look in the front boot, stamped into the chassis at the back there's a number SW20-xxxx-xxxx. Give them that and they'll be able to tell you which sensor you need. Actually, now that I think about it, there's a plate on the front (still in the front boot) with that SW20 number and a 'Frame Number'. ...

Re: Annoying part breakage!

mine snapped the same as you. There is a part number on the filter. They come in at £34 + vat!   without it the engine will run a high idle. Mine runs/idles absolutely fine. :-k The only thing it doesn't do is make dump valve noises anymore... :( £34. Bloody hell. Paid out £40...

Annoying part breakage!

I was checking the seals on my vacuum hoses over the weekend and one of the lines into the white plastic thing (one way valve?) near the standard dump valve snapped off. Does anyone know where can I get a new one? I can see it taking a month for Toyota to get their hands on one and wanting plenty of...

Re: Oil Leaking from Headgasket....

I didn't know that a head gasket failure could destroy the bottom end... Scary stuff!

The bottom of my engine is covered in oil, I had assumed it was from a recent rocker cover gasket failure (a few months before I bought the car). Now I think it'd be wise to clean it off and have a damn good look...

Re: Hesitation when cold...

I've already done the dash temp sensor, it had snapped clean off. Really should have take that as a hint... ](*,) How do you order bits from the US then? There are a few other bits I wouldn't mind at some point... Question for you guys. I'm on a K-plate '92 rev 2 but I've got the REALLY thin HT lead...

Re: Hesitation when cold...

There's a cure for this one :) Its basically the water temperature sensor on the Rev1 and 2s. Its still operating within the BGB Toyota spec, but effectively its telling the ECU the coolant is colder than it actually is - and it makes the car bog down when cold. Mine was so bad when I got my turbo ...

Hesitation when cold...

Hi guys, wonder if you can help with this... My car hesitates quite badly when it’s stone cold. It's getting worse and the last week or so it's been a real problem. Its only a real issue when the car is stone cold. When it’s warm the hesitation improves, or sometimes goes away totally (particularly ...

Re: Lack of power in 3rd, surely my tubby should be faster???

I thought that a couple of weeks after buying my tubby, so I decided the running costs weren't worth it and swapped back to my 216GTI (0-60 in 7.2). I ran it once then went back to the MR2. The difference was unreal. It's probably in your head mate! If you doubt it, try a 0-60. Should be 5.6 ish. De...

Re: Oil Leaking from Headgasket....

Bucks, a mate of mine used it on a supra - it stopped the leak totally. Only problem is it tends to block up just about everything else as well. Not something to try on a car you want to keep!

Out of interest...

Which bit of Lincolnshire? I know a Carina in Lincolnshire who recently bought an MR2... By the way, concrete bag in the front - not wise. The increased weight over the front is offset by the increased forces pushing sideways in a corner. Light-weight is the key to good handling... That's why they d...
