Re: Throttle Bodies and Cams

well i got 204 hp out of a 1.6litre 4age and only spent 300quid on the head. That was all singing, all dancing and done by the best guy in the country - Richard Macer. If you have your wits about you then you build up a relationship with the person who is going to be doing the work then you get a be...

Re: Throttle Bodies and Cams

Headwork prob wouldnt be 1k. A good port job (with a bit of bartering) should cost no more than 500. Also, as you have the rev 4 you have shim under bucket cam followers so you could go for real high lift cams over real long duration that way idle wouldnt be as lumpy and the driveability would also ...

Re: Can an EBC lower the boost levels below std???

I got a forge one at the show for £70. My old one never broke as such it just got real sh1tty at boosting right. Seemed slow and jerky to get to full boost. With this new actuator on even though its over boosting the power delivery is much smoother and the boost comes on much earlier. I guess the ol...

Yeah will do mate. I have felt it a few times buy yesterday was the first time i felt any play in it!!

Got my intercooler all ready to go in now. Im gunna run it on the std pipes to begin with and then get a pattern for the new pipes to be made!!

How much play in turbo shaft is acceptable??

As i changed me actuator today i had to strip alot of the engine bits down to get at it which gave me chance to check a few things over - like turbo play. Now, to me it feels like it has about 1mm of side to side movement i guess. Is this too much or standard?? Its a CT20b that as done about 130k ki...

Can an EBC lower the boost levels below std???

Hi, i have just spent the whole day fitting my new actuator only to find out that the spring i have in it must be far to strong and is making me boost to 1.3bar. Now i have other springs that the guy gave me but i really dont wanna spend another day taking it back off again to change the spring!! SO...

Re: Over boosting

I have had a de cat & mongoose for a while now and everything was fine until a couple of weeks ago. It is now overboosting like mad. I have wound the grainger valve out as far as it will go but it still is making no difference!! I have now purchased an uprated actuator to see if that cures the p...

Re: [Mk2 Turbo] Free/ cheap Mods.

Hmmm, chances of me being able to do this without a)seriously damaging the car b) seriously damaging me are probably quite slim.

Just brought a forge actuator - coupleof q's before fitting.

Hi i managed to get a good deal on a forge actuator at the autosport show last weekend which was lucky as i think mine is on its way out - overboosting like mad!! Firstly - my std actuator has 2 outlets on the top of it and the forge one only has one outlet. I'm guessing that i just gotta get a T pi...

Re: Giving the 3SGE another 2000rpm...

Well - in my build i soon realised that £1500 for itb's was out of my reach so as im mechanically minded and lucky enough to have the facilities i firstly made my own inlet manifold but the itb's i used on that manifold were way to big so i ended up ditching that and brought a twin 40/45 dcoe carb i...

Re: Giving the 3SGE another 2000rpm...

Hi, im not saying that if you get the head done properly it will yeild you masses of power - say if you put a fully ported head on a std engine you may get 5-7hp thats all. What i am saying though is that if you want to go high revving and big power - its not possible without a very good port job as...

Re: Giving the 3SGE another 2000rpm...

If i can get 204 fwhp (127.5 hp/litre) out of a 1.6 4A-GE then i'm SURE 220 out or a 3s-ge is obtainable.

The absolute KEY is headwork. Regardless of what anyone says - if you dont get that done right it just wont flow what is needed to make this power.

No it retains it. Which is why a spearco or greddy can have a bigger spal

do you think i would even be able to get a fan and shroud fitted then??

Thanks :)

Re: Giving the 3SGE another 2000rpm...

I had a mk1 engine that i rebuilt fully rebuilt and tuned. it had 290 deg cams and revved to 9,200rpm on itb's - it sounded amazing!!! The key to getting high revs is the right cams and the right head work. The only down side is, the more aggressive the cam the more top end you get but the worse low...
