Re: Stripped seatbelt mounts

Yeah, looks like they're the wrong bolts, beats me how the previous owner managed to lose two of them. The holes were packed out with some gummy stuff which is why they stayed tight for a bit. Tried asking at my local Mr T, but the part doesn't show up on the system and he didn't seem very into the ...

Re: Painting chrome strips

I did one of mine at the weekend, bit of wire wool to clean it up and then a quick spray with matt black. Would have preferred satin but it actually looks alright. This weekend its the A post covers. I had all the rear trim apart anyway since I was getting 18 years worth of muck out from under it. I...

Stripped seatbelt mounts

Noticed that the driver side seatbelt mount on my SC was very loose and on closer investigation I was able to wiggle the bolt right out! The passenger side is better and will tighten up a bit before it jumps the threads. Both are the bolts on the centre tunnel. Took the carpet off and the holes don'...

Re: In Garage for last 10 years

For what its worth mine (also an 86) sat for about 8 years between 1995 and 2003 before being ferried off to Paul Woods for a generous helping of TLC. Paul had so much trouble starting it he ended up changing the injectors because they were so gummed up. He also did lots of other stuff and left it l...

Re: Bodged T-Bar repair

Yes, thats what I was hoping to find but the local DIY store didn't seem to have anything resembling that. Its possible that something was lost in translation since the wife definately didn't know what I was looking for but my Japanese isn't that bad either so I'm pretty sure it wasn't on offer. Loo...

Re: Bodged T-Bar repair

Cheers, looks like I got stuck at step 6. I'll read the instructions properly next time, but in my defence my version is all in Japanese  .

Bodged T-Bar repair

I just bought an SC T-bar which is mechanically very nice but cosmetically could use quite a bit of TLC. Worse thing is the previous owner 'fixed' the leaking T-bars by covering all the seals with black silicon sealant and then fixing them back in place. The silicon then oozed out around the edges o...

Exhaust Rattle

I bought an SC a couple of weeks ago and it has an annoying rattle from the exhaust at idle. Put it up on stands this afternoon and it looks like its coming from a metal cover around the exhaust between the braided bit and the cat, almost directly below the anti-roll bar. I can't see anything at all...

Long term storage

I'm going to have to lay up my MR2 for an extended period as I'm moving back out to Japan again. Last time I did this it sat in the garage for about 9 years without any particular preparation so Mr Woods had lots of fun getting it running again.... Any thoughts on the best way to prepare the car? Th...

Re: Mk1a radio cassette

The MK1A doesn't use a standard Toyota harness but its not too hard to work out what's what with a continuity tester. Mine had a little pigtail connector between the socket attached to the car and the original stereo so I snipped off the plug at the stereo end and attached a standard ISO socket. I'l...
