You should always release the tension off the spring of the torque wrench whilst in storage or the spring can weaken over time

Are you sure it is corroded . Most look corroded but it could be just old crusty dried up grease .

Re: rev 1 turbo problems with cooling system

Check the coolant pipes that go to the heater . They run above the fuel tank . Not immediately obvious unless you remove the under trays and see if there is evidence of leaking either in the form of rust marks on the fuel tank or wet on the upsides of the under trays . You can also loosen the heat s...

Re: Car cut out on me and won't restart - fueling issue?

Check around the ignition coil for cracks or rust Very common for rust on the metal bracket of the coil to blow the side out of the coil and then the spark just shorts out to ground .

Re: Need some guidance on DIY repair

You can get the alt out without dropping the subframe . You first have to disconnect the alternator and then move it about while you disconnect the bracket the alternator bolts to from the engine . Then do an Indian rope trick manoeuvre and get the bracket past the alt and out of the engine bay then...

Re: Trickle charger question...

You can put the charger wires onto the big positive wire in the engine bay fuse box and anywhere shiny metal in the engine bay for the negative , saves having to remove the spare all the time

Re: looking at a rebuild

All rev 2 turbos will stall when you. remove the oil cap the air goes in past the afm and messes the fuel ratio up Oil in the inter cooler pipes Is not necessarily game over just means probably the turbo seals are passing a bit of oil what other symptoms are you getting for the mechanic to be sugges...

Re: Loose passenger seat.

You have broken the captive nut off the chassis . The only way you will be able to fix it is to chisel off he cover piece of metal over the captive nut under the car , then grip the captive nut with some visegrips and undo the bolt . You will then need to get the captive nut reattached ( welded ) if...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] rev 2 compression results advice

20 percent leak down isn't massive did you isolate the fuel pump from injecting whilst cranking as that can make a difference too
At 65 psi I'm amazed th thing starts even.

Re: All over for G164 CKV... didn't make the moon after all.

I'd like to buy the whole car, all it needs is an engine, i can't understand why Rob wouldn't just take up our offer and have one fitted, after all what is there to lose? In the process we'd get to find out how and why it failed, a win win situtation. Breaking the car under these circumstances make...

Re: V8 Mk1 6 speed with power steering

brake disc holes are never toleranced in the first place, manufacturer spec discs often have upto 2mm of clearance. because the disc has a hubcentric mounting to locate it, the bolt holes are essentially only there to allow the wheel studs to protrude for the wheels themselves. they double up in sh...
