Re: [Mk2] [NA] No electrics to dashboard

OK, I have found the120n amp fuse and I can see it is blown, it is an oblong fuse, but I cant see a bolt on the bottom to get it out. I can see bolts on the side of the fuse lower down but I can't see how to get them out as the are blocked by the casing.

Re: [Mk2] [NA] No electrics to dashboard

Had a bit of a breakthrough today, I fitted an old seized alternator that I removed 4 years ago and got a battery light on the dash when I turned on the ignition, which is more than I got with the other alternator, so I think my alternator is goosed........cheapest I can find is £135 +VAT

Re: [Mk2] [NA] No electrics to dashboard

Have checked all of the fuses from the 3 boxes with a metre and all were OK, spent a couple of hours checking, also looked for loose cables but couldn't find anything.
Dark now so can't check until tomorrow, but is the alternator fuse below the fuse box in the engine bay?

Re: [Mk2] [NA] No electrics to dashboard

Cheers, have had the terminals on and off a few times and also checked I didn't have any bent pins in the alternator terminal block.
Had a quick look under the fuse box but could only see the HT coil, am I loking in the right place?

[Mk2] [NA] No electrics to dashboard

I just removed my alternator as it was sticking, I cleaned it up and it now spins fine so I refitted it. Big problems though, when I turn on the ignition no lights come on in the dash. The engine starts and sounds great but I have no instruments other than my fuel gauge, I have no indicators but do ...

Re: [Mk2] [NA] Squeeling belt

Depends on how long the belts have been on the car if they need changing, but they can be easily adjusted. When you rev the engine and the squealing stops put your headlights and heater fan on full blast at idle and if the squealing starts again it is your alternator belt, easily adjusted at the alt...

Re: [Mk2] [NA] What's it worth?

I suppose you are right. when I checked the nut on the wheel bearing I also found the strut was leaking (don't know how they missed that at the MOT), it also failed on a fog light and I can't get into it to change the bulb. It is starting to wear me down.

[Mk2] [NA] Emissions

Just failed the MOT on emissions and was told to put an emission cleaner into the fuel, anyone had any success with this, or know of any other quick fixes that work?

Re: [Mk2 NA] Noise at 85 mph

Yes the wheels have all been balanced within the last year.

What I can't understand is why the noise comes and goes and is not constant

Re: [Mk2 NA] Noise at 85 mph

It is only at the same speed and above no matter what gear, it is not a tinny noise but a deep resonating hum

[Mk2 NA] Noise at 85 mph

I have just noticed a loud droning noise at 85 mph and above, it lasts about 2 seconds and then goes away for about 2 seconds, at first I thought it was the road surface, but I get it on all surfaces. I also got the noise at the same speed in 4th and 5th gear so it is not engine related. Has anyone ...

Re: Kangaroo petrol 95 N/A

Plugs are gapped correctly, problem was there before and after plug change, I have the feeling that a connection or something may have been disturbed when the clutch was done but can't see anything obvious, I was just hoping that someone would know what would cause this problem if something was not ...
