Re: Mk2 on fire, M66
Hi guys, thanks for all the support. This car is literally like a family member to me - it's been with me about 9 years - so yes sad times. Yes a fire extinguisher would have been very handy and I have about 6 old ones that I replaced at work not so long ago that would have worked just fine :eye: I ...

Re: What's everyone's plans for next year?
Get the car built.... And as Craig knows, we have a little surprise planned regarding the rebuild.... So is Craig slipping in a little forged build there under the gf's radar at the same time? Originally I would have been getting my Phoenix Power bumper fitted but it looks possible that...

Re: Driving in snow
If the logic followed about weight over the wheels, then FWD cars would never get stuck either. When I switched to AD08s snow performance got marginally better, but I still did everything possible to avoid driving the car in the snow. Marf - it won't work in quite the same way with FWD/Front engine...

Re: Driving in snow
Yes pretty good in the snow. I've run 255 width winter tyres during even the heavy snow of a few years ago with no problems. In fact my mr2 was one of very few cars that could drive up the incline into the work car park when it was covered in snow - just drive sensibly and have the right tyres and y...

If your mpg is that bad I would check that your thermostat isn't stuck open as well. Does the coolant temperature gauge behave normally?

Re: mk2 turbo - flat battery - heavy duty options?
The Halfords calcium batteries work well and they do honour the warranty - you just take it back if it fails with the receipt and pick another up once they've tested it. It's one reason I still buy some car stuff from there. Although it's generally not the cheapest place to pick things up, there is ...

When I last messaged greeny (his IMOC user name) he had the Camry block you are after although he was hanging onto it as a spare. That was quite a while back now though so maybe he would consider selling it?
Worth a try anyway

Re: 'Sam' on ebay, named and shamed
I suppose he has a point though assuming things went down as he described them. When I travelled down to South Wales (from Manchester) to buy the MX5 a few years back I had already sorted my insurance to start on the day of collection and bought my train ticket to leave early morning as well, so it ...

Re: Thinking of moving to an sw20
What is the difference for stock turbo vs stock N/A in terms of the engine weight Ashleigh? As for Turbo vs NA - I'd go turbo every time... if only because getting owned by virtually every modern 'hot hatch' gets old really quickly  Mk2 turbo handling is nice anyway I think. I have the MR2 and ...

Re: Forged Engine Oil Consumption ??
Yes 5W30 is going to be too thin for a daily driven car. It's more suitable for people that are racing their cars and want to wring all the power they can from the engine by taking advantage of the low viscosity. I tried Motul 300V 5W30 for a while and found oil usage was very high. I am using a 15W...

Re: Nankang NS-II's
That's because the MX5s don't have that much power so you can get away with putting the foot down more without worrying so much about losing traction when you are already rolling :D (not slagging them off btw - just what I found with my own 150 BHP turbo'd mk1 MX5) I've been trying a winter tyre on ...

Re: Forged Engine Oil Consumption ??
I've run a few forged builds and oil consumption varied a lot between them. The worst 2 were about on par with what you are describing here but otherwise performed well in daily use and made good power. It is a bit irritating having to top up so frequently but I guess it's just down to how much clea...

Hi Peter - is Simon selling his gearbox with the alternative end gear as well? (PS - haven't forgotten about the front undertray - I'm waiting for delivery of my Phoenix bumper so that it can be shaped to fit that)
