Re: Notchy gear change
FWIW, may be worth checking / changing the gearbox oil, I've just done mine ( Workshop manual says every 48k ) and put MT90 in. It does improve the shift quality a little, but won't cure more serious problems. If you are doing the job - what does make it really easy to do is to use an oil transfer p...

Re: Tyre profile difference ?
FWIW I'm running Advan Neovas - 195/50 on the front, 225/45s on the rear with post facelift alloys. That gives a slightly understeery balance to the car on the limit, and the taller rear tyres give a noticeably 'longer' gearing. Other than that, there are no issues with this setup ( eg ABS ECU ) Nex...

Re: I am betraying my mark 1 and am moving over to the darkside! woooo
And have your legs surgically removed, Chris ;) That is an issue, they're not brilliant for folks over 6 ft. :-k Chris - I'm just over 6ft, and with the seat all the way back its fine - no compromise on the seating position. I used to find tracking the Mk2 Turbo I'd clonk my head on the roof at tim...

Re: Emissions Problems AGAIN!!!!
'Chuffing' noise sounds like a small crack in the manifold or exhaust pipework somewhere - that would throw off your Lambda, and if before the Oxy sensor it would also mean the ECU would 'see' more oxygen in the exhaust than it expects. With the engine / exhaust cold, if you can get your hand near t...

Re: removing airbag?
Great write up and pics - the Roadster wheel on a Mk2 looks good :+: Just when removing the airbag, be very careful - you don't want one going off near you as it can do you some damage. Some precautions I'd take would be to leave the car to stand ~ 12 hours before working on the airbag, and make sur...

Re: 3s-fe a few questions...
FWIW, my first MR2 back in '96 was a UK Coupe with the 3S-FE engine. Later I test drove a Rev3 UK NA and around town there was nothing to really separate them - the two litre engines both develop the same amount of torque across most of the rev band that you'd normally use. The difference I found wa...

Re: Very light (dangerous) steering problem rev2 turbo
As Bob's posted, I suspect your kph->MPH converter as Bob has spotted is the cause. I had a Rev2 and did an experiment disconnecting the PAS pump speed signal input and that caused scary shopping trolley-light steering, exactly what you seem to have. I'd check the wiring and ensure the speed signal ...

Re: swapping a 1zz with a 2zz block...possible ??
The 2zz head and block are different overall dimensions to the 1zz, eg 2zz block has an additional oil channel to work the VVTI not present on the 1zz.
For the 2ZZ HG in your 1ZZ - interesting - did you check a 1zz HG against a 2ZZ HG to see what lined up?

Re: swapping a 1zz with a 2zz block...possible ??
No - the oil passages will not line up.
The engines are different designs, with other differences including different bore and stroke ratios, and the 2zz having a lightened bottom end to help with the higher redline.

Re: swapping a 1zz with a 2zz block...possible ??
Yep - as Dan has said, teh 2zz swap can be done if you want to stay NA. A friend rebuilt his 1ZZ with a brand new new bottom end, reusing the existing head. The cost was 1,500 for parts for what is now basically a brand new engine in his car. If you do an engine swap for a 2zz, given so much will be...

Great video. Seems to be very softly sprung, with little grip - he's drifting it nearly everywhere, which would explain the sawing at the wheel.

Re: bloody lights
I'm a big am a big fan of the +5-/ +70% bulbs - but don't forget replacing a 10 year old+ headlamp and reflector with a new one will make a huge difference to the amount of light they throw down the road.. If you fit a new headlamp unit and put in some 50% brighter ( or better ) bulbs will be excell...

Make sure you're running Super Unleaded - sounds like the ECU closing the VSV beacuse air temps are below 4C, or it has picked up some detonation.
