Re: Rev2 turbo thermostat replacement - help needed!

First off I can't help with the access to the bolts etc as I only have experience of working on an n/a engine. But I can add that you need to invest in some good penetrant spray and small wire brush to clean the threads. I like the penetrant made by 3 in 1 but others are available and are all my h b...

Re: How hard is it to replace the sills?

The process of replacing a good length of the will is relatively easy for a body shop esp as now they are available to buy. There was also a guy on eBay seling rear half and arch repair pieces. However once the outer will is cut off it will reveal some box sections that will be sooo rusty and need c...

Re: [Mk2] [NA] Clutch Fluid color

Over time the fluid will absorb water that turns it a little milky. Add to that the rubber seals deteriorate also and blacken the fluid some. That might give you the result you have. Having put new fluid through til it runs clear, if the system still functions correctly, bleed some off after a coupl...

I used a suitably sized 12v miniature bulb from maplin.
You have to unwind the legs to remove the old one and fitting is the reverse.

Re: steel mist grey 187 paint match trouble

The way to do it with old paint is to take it to a place that has a spectrometer (?) that can read the colour and give the recipe to match it. You could try any of the places that you would find on google that will make up paint to a code and ship it but they may be working from the same recipe as y...

Re: Coil Pack Crack

If you are needing to use the car but have to wait for a new coil to arrive, you can get away with drying that one out in the airing cupboard or oven on very low. Once dry just fill that crack with araldite or rtv silicon. That bracket needs a clean up also as the coil earths through the bracket. If...

I would also be looking at the slave cylinder attached to the gearbox as this is in an area near the front mount.

Re: OEM Stereo wiring ??

http://www.imoc.co.uk/forums/kb.php?mode=article&k=125 Best option for the plug would be to check your loom for colours of wires and match them to the page i linked to. Then contact anyone breaking a two and see if they will cut you off the plug with some tails so you can just join em. You could...

Re: Rev 4 NA, Discs and Pads

OEM discs and pads or at least a quality brand OEM equivalent. Brembo, Pagid, Mintex etc. If you want lower dust then EBC red stuff increase the stopping power and are lower dust pads BUT........ Ideally you better results with the red stuff pads if the discs aren't brand new. So you could buy some ...

Re: gear change slighlty off

I assume you have looked closely at the brass middle of the bushes as these do wear and go ovoid. They should fit snugly on the shaft of the linkage of the gearbox. The bearing upgrade is well worth doing here. If as you say the bushes in the cables are good then next thing to look at is the brass c...

Re: [Mk2] [Generic] Any tips to stop doors freezing shut

I also run a plastic spreader between the bottom of the window and the door seal to clean it off a little then coat the bottom of the window with loads of silicon spray and wind it down and up area times and repeat to stop the window freezing stuck to the seal.

Re: [Mk2] [NA] New Battery Needed

Any quality branded battery should meet your needs. I bought a Bosch blue top and it's been brilliant particularly when I have left the car for a month and come back to it and it starts fine. The mains things to worry about are the wiring, alt and parasitic drains. If you are putting a big sound sys...

Re: [Mk2] [Generic] Any tips to stop doors freezing shut

Yes silicone spray works well and dries to the touch so no rubbing off on clothes if you rub past and doesn't collect dirt like oils would. Also known as mould release spray. Also good for locks to prevent freezing and dirt build up.

Re: [Mk2] [NA] RPM related rattle around the intake

Difficult to tell from video but the sound seems to be more prominent near the intake. The square like bit of the intake has butterflies in it that are moved at certain rpm to adjust the length of the intake path. These flaps are controlled by a lever attached to a vacuum powered diaphragm. Now the ...

Re: [Mk2] [NA] Spark plug leads

Great that you are trying some work yourself but..... It may just be the leads but it is more likely to be a cracked coil pack or the earth for the coil pack wait earth's through the mounting bracket to the body. As for the leads you may need to twist back and forth a little as the boot part that si...

Re: MK2 MR2 - Loud knocking noise from rear at low speed, rubbing at high speed :-(

A rhythmic knocking is unlikely to be a static component like the suspension and if the knock remains under braking then that could rule out a warped disc or a stone in the pads.

As someone has already said, my money would-be a CV joint.

Re: [Mk2] [NA] JDM Speed limiter confusion

Look closely at the Speedo, is it a replacement cover that just shows mph? This doesn't necessarily mean there has been a conversation fitted.if there is a converter fitted it will be attached to the rear of the Speedo and if it is fitted it will raise the limit to 110*1.6. If you hit the speed limi...

Label wiring connectors and take photos of all the routing of hoses, vac lines and wiring looks before removing them. Also note/label the very important earth leads.
Also photo all the brackets and mounts so you now where and how they go.

Re: A useless Parking Brake..

Assuming the rebuild wasn't messed up you could try the following; Loosen off the handbrake cable a little Make sure the lever on the caliper moves in and out by hand Wind in the pistons fully then wind out only enough to align the cut out with the notch on the back of the pad. Refit calipers and pr...
