I'm not entirely sure ABS is tested in an MOT anyway. If an error bulb is lit and the tester notices it, I don't know if this is a fail or not?

Sounds exactly like my car was behaving when the mechanical (i.e. valve position to piston top-dead centre) position was not set up correctly. Has the car recently had a new cambelt installed?

Had exactly the same problem on mine with the warning lights staying on. Alternator had seized. Worth checking yours to see if it is still working
