Poor service regarding mk1 parts

Can I ask whether it is ok for me to name someone on here who has provided me with poor service regarding the ordering of some secondhand mk1 parts? I have nothing to gain other than advising others on here of this person and to be careful when using their services?

Re: Agreed valuation help please.

I can see your point Lauren about the agreed value. Mine isn't perfect by any stretch but I suppose I wouldn't want to be offered say £700 when it would cost me say £1200 to buy a similar example. Like was mentioned earlier the work done to the car comes to several thousand so a measly pay out would...

Re: Agreed valuation help please.

Thanks for the replies. I've now has to cancel my olive with Houghton's as they took some details down wrong them wanted another £57 which would have made them uncompetitive. Therefore, I don't have the problem now. I've got to find another company now so I'll see what their rules on agreed valuatio...

Agreed valuation help please.

Hi. I've just sorted out my insurance with Houghton's and apart from sticking an extra £50 on the price for lowered suspension (when I had that for 7 years previously and they weren't bothered) I'm happy with the quote. To get an agreed value I have to have someone sign the form to say they think it...

Re: MOT failed - advice needed.

Just took car for MOT and it's now passed! I've managed to build up a list of jobs to do, notably replacing the alternator and some rust proofing, but at least the car's road legal :D

Torque settings for suspension?

Hi. Does anyone know where to find the torque settings for the ball joint and other bolts on the lower front suspension? Want to make sure they're tight without stripping the threads. Thanks.[/list]

Re: MOT failed - advice needed.

Decided to start on my suspension this evening. Managed to undo the bottom drop link bolt but the top one wasn't turning at all and ended up rounding it. I used penetrating oil on it first but to no avail. I started using a hacksaw but that didn't work. I decided to get the grinder on it being caref...

Re: MOT failed - advice needed.

I've got a separator tool, the one with the groove in it that you hit with a hammer. Hopefully this is up to the job. I've got the weekend to do it so fingers crossed I can sort it out!

Re: MOT failed - advice needed.

Well washers and horn now working. I always wondered why my horn sounded so weedy. I didn't realise that there were two and only one was working. At least I stand a chance of someone hearing me now! I've had the ball joint delivered. It was off eBay but sold by Eurocarparts and it looks pretty decen...

Re: MOT failed - advice needed.

I had an issue with my horns not working and it was down to the steering wheel horn pusher, If you remove the cover you will see that to sound the horn there are four little copper pins that push on a plate to make the connection, mine we're corroded, just a rub over with every paper not only fixed...

Re: MOT failed - advice needed.

You car will be quite legal with just one horn working & will pass MoT I removed one from my car as part of my weight saving programme :) Hi. I've managed to get them both working now thanks. The one on the passenger side (sorry I said drivers side before by mistake) isn't great though so I'm g...

Re: MOT failed - advice needed.

Good advice there. I've bought a ball joint and drop links off eBay. The drop links might not last too long but I don't do too many miles and at least will get me through the MOT. When the horn is pushed on the steering wheel there is a relay type noise only although I now realise there is no relay ...

Re: MOT failed - advice needed.

Thanks for the replies. I know you can get parts off eBay but just concerned about quality. I'm trying to sort the horn out now. I've connected it to a battery and it works even if it sounds feeble, always did! When I push the horn on the steering wheel the relay clicks and that's all. I think maybe...

MOT failed - advice needed.

Put my car in for it's Mot today. Failed on windscreen washer and horn not working. The washer is just the switch. Not sure about the horn yet but I'm hopeful I can sort that relatively easily. It also failed on 'n/s front lower anti-roll bar linkage has excessive play in a ball joint' which I think...

Re: Best way to find parts?

Thanks for the replies. So if I wanted a particular part can I post it in this section or does my request have to go in the wanted section? I'm just thinking that more mk1 owners would read this section. Don't want to get in trouble though :?

Re: Alternator problem?

Just checked. Battery was on chRge overnight and showed 14.07 volts. After starting engine it showed 12.05 then up to 12.32 after engine switched off. Checked the headlights and they are not going any brighter. The battery's definitely not getting charged but still not sure if it's the alternator or...

Best way to find parts?

Hi,

Can I just clarify, if i'm after some parts do I post in the wanted section or can I post in the mk1 forum? It's just that I've never had any responses in the wanted section before and it seems like mostly mk2 parts there? I've just become a premium member if that helps.

Thanks
Paul
