next project

Wife wants to take the little dog away with us next year, so the next project will be an XK8 convertible in the style of an Aston Martin Vantage. I'll be keeping the MR2 though, I'd sooner sell the Harley to finance the Jag. If all goes to plan, my son will be getting the tubby; something I would ha...

Re: MR2 Mk2 Tubby to South of France

damn, sounds like an epic adventure about to start again! Have a brilliant trip :thumleft: On a side note, why the anti puncture stuff.... I figured a cargo net on the engine cover would hold a full sized alloy til you could get the tyre repaired or replaced. Haven't tried this theory but really sh...

South of France

Well, only a few days to go and we're off to the SOF again! A hectic last two years has prevented any of the mods I was hoping to make on the Tubby, only thing I've done is make a vinyl roof for when we are down there to save putting roasting hot glass panels off and on. The Lambo spoiler looked pan...

Alps again

Just got back from another 2 week sojourn to SOF. 5000mls in 20 days went through Belgium, Holland, Germany (Oh those Autobahns!) Luxembourg and into France over the Alps. Came back by an even more intense Alpine route through France on the N85. Torrential rain all the way to Aups Followed by 14 day...

Re: MR2 Mk2 Tubby to South of France

hi, Just for the MR2 logo. But Toyota sold the MR2 in France and Belgium with the MR logo. Without the two. Only 1178 copies for France, that's why you will not see a lot of MR with us. Since there have been imports and we see the name MR2 .. For travel in the south, vmaxnick, you made the good cho...

Re: Brake Line removal/rounded nuts - Refurbed Calipers

What a pain Why does one job always lead to 10 more lol. Part of owning an MR2 I guess, i did think about gettin the torch out and getting some heat into the nut? Anyone think that might give results? I really don't want to start replacing the whole brake line as I can see that being alot of work f...

Re: [Mk2] [Generic] What size wheel spacers do i need?

I couldn't fit 5mm spacers with standard studs. You need at least the width of the stud of usable thread showing. Careful of the studs on the bay, most are good but need your hubs drilling as they are larger diameter on the splines. (You can do it with a decent hand drill.) I managed 5mm spacers on ...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] New Water Pump?

Plenty change them in situ with no issues though I hear. R Not saying you can't do it, but if you don't have a well equiped workshop you will find it a struggle. The two things I found the most challenging were getting the top engine mount out and in and getting the bottom pulley off and out. My Re...

Re: Legal advice - NEW DEVELOPMENTS - Further Update!

Just an aside; as the defendant in this case, you aren't obliged to disclose what you will use in your own defence, whereas the claimant is. As the claimant is now an MR2 owner, is it not feasible (although unlikely) that he could have access to this forum and what is being discussed? If so, you are...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] New Water Pump?

So now im going to change the water pump as well as the thermostat and coolant. I might as well give the cambelt a change with the idler and tensioner. If you have the facilities, take the engine out first. I just did cambelt, idlers and tensioner with the engine in. My back hasn't been the same si...

[Mk2] [Turbo] Blitz de-cat

Sorry if this has been covered before, I've tried a search but can't seem to find a search term that filters out irrelevant stuff! I have a Blitz cast Iron de-cat system which I would like to fit to my Mk 2 rev 1 turbo. I have a mongoose ss exhaust fitted. As far as I can tell, I have lambda sensors...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] piece of poo?

Done it! I chose a vauxhall frontera 2.3 TD air box because I had it lying around and the size of the intake hole matched the square hole of my intake valve perfectly. As it happens, the four holes in the plastic box also lined up spot on. Had to use a little hot air gun persuasion on the top of the...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] piece of poo?

I agree that price doesn't mean quality but I had an unbranded filter in my off roader once and when the turbo was on full chat in a lane, it sucked the filter inside out. Did no real harm, but left us head scratching for a bit. I think I will have a play around with the filter box off my NA Mr2 see...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] piece of poo?

air filters have 2 purposes: 1) stop dirt getting into your engine 2) make noise <£15 do #1 only >£15 do #'s 1 and 2. anyone who tells you otherwise has never done their research or is easily fooled by marketing and advertising. And for what its worth foam filters are the worst kind but the differe...
