Re: Black mk1's

I have a metalic Mk1a and know of only one other belonging to Jonathan in Leicester. Photos of mine in Garage they do need a bit more upgrading. But yes they are rare particularly 204M Black.

Re: Cam Covers

soak them in Paraffin to get the oily gunk out.
Then use a can of spray nitromors.
I then finished off with a jet wash.
dry quickly and get an etch primer on them.
Then topcoat with a decent high temp paint250C will do.
Came out perfect without the risk of getting grit in the engine.

sorry to state the obvious but it might help someone. The Mk1a are longer than the M1b you can not make them fit if you but the wrong ones.

Re: Urgent help needed: Superflex track control arm bushes dimensions and fitting

sorry to state the obvious but cut them into two pieces and push them in from both sides. Then push the metal tube in to lock it together. The ones I had where two piece anyway. We just used a six inch vice to wind them in. I did spend some time to clean out the socket of rust first and gave it a co...

Re: Those simple jobs that go horribly wrong

Hi Ya, I feel for you mate the same thing happened to me some years ago. The Oil Filter just would not come off. I tried the screwdriver trick and that made the situation worse it just chewed the end of the filter up. I finally freed it off with a chain wrench hard up against the seal end of the fil...

Re: springs with the koni kit

I used Larkspeed and they were great but even they admited defeat after a while. I am not talking one attempt to get the problem sorted I had many packages arrive all sorts of nuts and bolts none fitted. I finally got a call to say they had found the problem and the nuts would be with me next day. I...

Re: springs with the koni kit

Just a word of warning Koni are probably the worst company I have ever had the missfortune to deal with. If the kit arrives complete and working you are fine otherwise I had 3 months contacting Koni and they never got the order right. I was missing the lock rings. Finally got them made from a local ...

Re: springs with the koni kit

I got Lesfor Springs and I am happy with them. You do need half a turn on the shocks but find the ride firm but OK for long trips. It does not dip into corners as some have said with their springs.

Re: Replaced Front Droplinks, Now steering is creaking!!

just a hunch but take out the front anti role bar bushes inspect them and if OK clean them and put them back. You may have disturbed them and either got some grit in there or moved the position on the bar slightly or may have been stuck to the bar with age. Put dry lube on if you can, then see noise...

If you are not VAT registered you will loose about 20% of your Sale. Only Businesses use this service now. Once you have been bitten by the VAT rip off to Switzerland I think you won't sell anything again. I sold a Camera for £500 but only received £400 after fees. Seller beware. It's a great shame ...

Re: Fully Synthetic Engine Oil

The only problem you may have is if the engine oil seals are poor in which case you will get some drips. I did not get this problem. You will know quite quickly if this is the case.

Re: Fully Synthetic Engine Oil

I use MOBIL 1 0W40 fully synthetic with no issues. As I dont use the car all the time, using this oil, the top of the engine does not clatter in first few seconds if it has not been started for a while. I would not swop back. It also has better detergents in it to keep the engine oil ways clean. I w...

Re: Anyone know this Mk1 ‘E965 ANM’

It's just nice to know that there is a core of enthusiasts keeping these cars going.
Core being the word, I suspect more than 50% recorded on the graph above will be beyond repair in 5 years killed by rust.

Re: Anyone know this Mk1 ‘E965 ANM’

I have made no profit on the car in fact I almost certainly have put more cost into it. True a car is only worth what someone will pay. The point is that now the good ones are becoming rarer. I know of a sc one that has done lesss than 1000 miles and been in dry storage for 20 years I tried to buy i...

Re: Anyone know this Mk1 ‘E965 ANM’

I've just insured mine for an agreed £7000 with my insurance company after inspection and a lot of work. It has not had or needed a complete body rebuild which aparantly can effect the price. If this car has been dry stored it could be worth £5000. How you prove that I don't know. My car was prodded...

Re: Removing the valve covers

If the covers have never been off the washer under the nut will have compressed the plastic onto the threads. This means the washer is now threaded. You can undo it by using a center punch tapping anticlockwise will loosen it and then tap a thin small screwdriver underneath and lever it off. You wil...

Re: Water pump and floor welding required.

You don't have to Drain the system to change the water pump. I just took mine off and lost about 3l coolant into a bowl. When finished just topped back up slowly. I did not even have to bleed system.

MR2 Valuation

Having spent mearly a year rebuilding my Mk1 I now need to Insure it at a value above Market. My Insurer has asked for a valuation from a dealer. What have you all done in this situation ?. Valued it at Market value, about £750 or found someone who can give it a value. Is there anyone in Southern En...
