Re: Home clutch change edit: MR2 specialists for clutch change in scotland?
as far as I remember, the car must be high enough so you can fit under it with the box on your stomach to lift it :) But no so high that you wind yourself on removal  For removal at least I prefer an old brake disc sat on top of a hydraulic jack. The center bore in the MR2 disc is just large e...

Re: engine temp low???
Look up how to bleed an MR2 and all will be revealed (regarding checking up on air locks). You will need to know the bleeding process for when you replace the thermostat anyway. If you know there's no leaks and the system is still full, you wont have an airlock either really, so continue with the th...

Re: What's the biggest risk you've taken when buying a car?
Bought a volvo V40 off ebay without viewing and then collected in the dark... - Brake calipers all round were almost entirely siezed - Thermostat was removed (presumed head gasket issues) - Some very skilled person had done a right number on the electrical systems - Bypassed sensors and relays forci...

Just ditch the antisqueal shims and use a bit of copaslip smeared on the back of the new pads, same effect, no faffing around.

Re: handbrake adjustment
I'm guessing by slack you mean excess travel and/or an inefficient handbrake, rather than excess slack in the cable when the handbrake is down and in the 'off' position... Use Paul Woods guide in this thread: http://www.imoc.co.uk/forums/viewtopic.php?t=4945 It's safe to ignore the endless discussio...

Re: Quick pre-cat question
The link above covers the pre-casts in isolation very well. However it misses out a HUGE related issue - oil consumption. Excessive oil blowing by piston rings is a common problem all by itself, caused by a poorer piston ring design in early (<03) 1ZZ engines. This oil consumption can be kept in che...

Re: Coilover options?
Not having a go here but a lot of people don't care about spring rates, damper valving etc. Also not having a go - but those who don't care about spring rates, damper valving etc therefore dont care about suspension in any real sense, and thus spending cash on it would be a bit wierd! Good ad...

Re: HELP! I think i may be killing my car! about cheap induction kit.
It is not likely that an induction kit will affect performance much at all on the 1ZZ, so no advantages there. But they do sound nice! You can use a universal k&n filter with your existing bit of piping to get a very cheap but safe upgrade that'll sound the part with top notch filtration to boot...

Re: Replacement alloys and tyres advice
One thing I noticed about the T1-R's is the back tyres (205/50/15) are only available in XL(reinforced) while the front 185/55/15's are not. Does anyone know if it is OK to mix these? i.e... reinforced on the back and and non reinforced on the front. I'm running those exact size T1R's with no compl...

Re: Replacement alloys and tyres advice
Tell them to stick the alpha tyres, some decent rubber is a must. Personally I like Toyo's, not to everyones taste but unquestionably good rubber and fantastic in the wet, which is a very nice thing to have on a mid-engined rear wheel drive car! Have you bought the wheels yet? If not, consider going...

Re: Worth the money?
Yeh, I'd say even £5 is pushing it. For a completely stock 04 import with that sort of milage (no fancy alloys, sideskirts, etc...) I wouldn't pay more than £4k and a bit. And you can't really expect to get the money back spent on mods when selling a car, so still wouldn't pay mych more than that. T...

Re: gearbox filler bolt rounded
When I got my first mk1 I also encountered this on both the gearbox filler and the sump drain plug. A lot of swearing and experimenting was the only solution - official vise grips are fantastic things (made by irwin) and a bolt grips socket set (also made by irwin) sorted very very rounded sump plug...

Go to screwfix! Or order from Screwfix.com They sell a torque wrench the same as halfords one for MUCH less. In a much appreciated move, a guy working FOR halfords actually offered up this information to me a few years ago when I was looking for one! The wrench your talking about will cover most com...

Re: Rad cap question...
Mk3 is a different fitment altogether, so isn't a goer.
I can think of a number of other Jap cars it will fit (honda's are mostly 40mm), but not so many toyota off the top of my head - maybe a rav4?!

Re: ECU Swap?
No need to swap ECU's - most codes can be read from the dash of the car with nowt more than a paper clip! Follow the guidance at http://codes.rennacs.com/plugins/ToyotaEFI/TOYOTA-EFI-21-Avalon.php by bridging the pins with half a paper clip or something of the sort. (Ignore the fact it's for a Toyot...
