Re: Should I?
For an '00 smoker it's somewhere between £500 and £1000 overpriced. Glass Half Full = A diy recon may resolve things before it gets beyond repair Glass Half Empty = or it might need replacement sooner rather than later Keep lookin I would. If you want a good 'un I'm sure you'll get one in that price...

Re: MK3 O2 sensor the same as MK2 O2 Sensor???
It's not the right one.
That ad states 2-wire
(and shows 2 wire in the picture).![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
The mk3 uses a four wire one.![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
To be honest I'm surprised the mk2 doesn't use a four wire one.![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)

Re: Best value manifold: Che?
no problems no, but the theory would be in favour of heat wrapping
- aids the evacuation of exhaust gasses and keeps engine bay temps down.![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
You will probably never notice the benefits, and I'm sure it will cause no problems as such, but the theory sides with heat wrapping.![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)

Re: Verdicts on these spark plugs?
The oil seems to be on the ends exposed to the outside only - i.e. not the ends inside the engine. Possibly they're just the two nearest to the oil filler cap? (so when a bit has spilt in the past (during topup/oil change) its hit those plugs and not so much the others??) If its the two at the tothe...

Re: oil sump leak
If it's really a pinhole leak then clean everything up very well with some brake fluid / solvent. Then give it a go with some liquid metal type stuff, and if it holds you've saved a bit of effort swapping it out... If you want to do it properly then of course a proper replacement would be on the car...

Give it time - it's gone from 1500, to 1400, to 1300 in 7 days so far! lol I'm very tempted, but I'm not convinced it's the cheapest they will be over the next few years - the odd one in this price range is probably just the beginning of the price truly bottomming out. Look at mk1 prices still - gue...

Cost it out, and if you swap the engine yourself it's worth it even if the engine IS knackered.

I solve the storage issue by having a volvo in reserve lol.![](./images/smilies/spacer.gif)
If storage is your priority then an MR2 would be last on the list!
For me MR2
= handling.
And as such the weight is the dealbreaker by a mile and a half
- just can't stand the weight of 3S block, even if it does have a turbo in tow!

Re: MK3 model year changes...
The primary reason to aim for a 2003 or later is better engine design (piston design primarily). The wheels and gearbox are negligable changes in comparison. Regarding the 2004 changes, as far as I'm aware UK models got these too yes. However this means manufactured in '04, not just registered, so t...

Over £100 for premuim-budget brand Mintex?! Can get a full set of standard mintex pads and new discs all round for 120-130 usually. In the past I've advocated this kit - they're fine so long as you don't happen to get one of the slightly misshapen ones that seem to roll off their production ...

Red rubber grease is the only thing to use. Available at most motor factors, and from ebay. It's also the stuff supplied by Mr. T in their caliper rebuild kits. There are other grease types which will give you the lubrication properties (e.g. white lithium) but offer next to nothing in terms of prot...

Re: Home clutch change edit: MR2 specialists for clutch change in scotland?
Looking from underneath you should clearly be able to see where the gbox joins the engine - at this point you will see the curve of the lower flywheel cover. If you have oil leaking from this point (out of the cover) then an oil seal is in need of replacement - you are correct, its hard to tell at t...
