Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Front brake floaty thing seized
I've tried to find a dealer round here but for some reason the Toyota dealer finder page doesn't think our postcode is valid, and doesn't consider Aberystwyth to be a valid town. If yell.com is to be believed, the nearest one is about 35 miles away on slow roads. Thanks for the cheap parts site - th...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Front brake floaty thing seized
Hi, Thanks for the excellent and informative replies :) As I've got discs and pads for front and rears, it makes sense for me to have a look at the other three before buying stuff in case I need more than one. The OSF is the only one I've attempted so far and where I found the seized sliding pin, an...

[Mk2] [Turbo] Front brake floaty thing seized
I set about replacing the front discs and pads today only to fail at the first hurdle. I've never done this before so I wasn't expecting to do it quickly. One of the two floating pins (is that what they're called?) that allows the caliper carrier to move in and out is seized. I've managed to get it ...

Re: WMS Brakes-> SW20 4 pot brake kit: £495.00+vat (also 2.5% or 5% IMOC discounts!)
Keri, Your brake upgrade looks very intersting but I have a few questions. I'm no expert in this area so I'm just asking because I would like to know the answers - I need to change my front brakes anyway (pads worn and one of the discs is warped) so now seems a good time to consider an upgrade. I li...

Re: Turbo differences
Sorry for resurrecting an old thread but it seemed better than starting a near duplicate. Those of you with GT2860 turbos, how early do they actually spool compared to a stock rev 3's turbo? My rev 3 with stock turbo gives me positive boost from just over 1000rpm and ramps up nice and smoothly and b...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] 235/40 R17 Proxes on 7 inch rim?
I suppose what a wider tyre does give you is the ability to lower the pressure a bit without as much deformation of the tyre under the car's weight (ie a tractor tyre at 8psi would probably support the car quite well, but a bicycle tyre at 8psi would be squashed flat). This in turn would be what wou...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] 235/40 R17 Proxes on 7 inch rim?
The reason I want to put wider ones on the rear is because the car is too tail happy as it is. As I said, tyre width is not the same as grip! Sorry I missed that the first time. I have to admit, I've never really understood the width=grip thing because the greater contact patch would have less pres...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] 235/40 R17 Proxes on 7 inch rim?
Hi everyone, thakns for your answers so far. The reason I want to put wider ones on the rear is because the car is too tail happy as it is. I don't think the car suits the same all round and I don't want to put really skinny ones on the front just because the rears aren't big enough. What is daft IM...

[Mk2] [Turbo] 235/40 R17 Proxes on 7 inch rim?
Hi, Has anyone here tried 235/40 R17 Toyo Proxes T1-R on a 7 inch wide rim? Unfortunately my car has 7" wide rims all round, I can't afford to change them just yet but I do need new rear tyres and would prefer to put a 235 on the back instead of the daft 215/40 ones it has on there at the momen...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Adding a supercharger to an existing turbocharged 3S-GTE
The wheel are already turning once you're at 3.5k rpm, so less likely to spin than when ramming home loads of torque from a standstill I guess. 1200 horses from 2.2 litres...a fekin huge turbo, lots of revs and race fuel :eye: Lots of boost too I would expect! Is it even possible to get much boost ...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Adding a supercharger to an existing turbocharged 3S-GTE
The car is used for sprints and I can only get 265 tyres on the rear. It will have anything from 650 to 1200 HP, and the max revs will be around 9000. The main problem with any two wheel drive car is getting the power to the ground so by bringing in the boost later I hope to stop a lot of the wheel...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Adding a supercharger to an existing turbocharged 3S-GTE
You would have no lag, but how would you put the power to the ground. On my new engine I do not want boost to start till I am 3500 and above Why would you actually want to wait until above 3500 before you get boost? I can see why you might not suddenly want a huge uncontrollable surge of torque tha...

Yes quite an eye opener indeed!
I presume you didn't have that post sitting in your editor for 5 months! It was when you said "tonight" that made me think it was recent.
Cheers,
Kingsley.

How are you getting hot ambient temps during night time at this time of year in England? Or by "ambient" are you referring to your engine bay?

How much toe out do you use, and have you noticed adverse effects on tyre wear?

Hi,
What do you mean by "washes slightly" ?
BTW, can't help thinking we've hijacked this thread a bit

A little toe out will help initial steering response :thumleft: 8) Is there a somewhat less scary way of sharpening the response?
