Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Compressor Surge
me and my dad built the engine but it was aroud 3 years ago so have forgotten what compression ratio the pistons were, we used a rev 3 standard metal head gasket, basically are you saying i need a different turbo i.e a bigger one to create more power at lower boost? say a GT3076?

They are cp Pistons just can't remember the compression ratio, I'll try the standard dump valve and see how I get on.. That's if I can find it thank you for your help! I'll let you know how I get on!

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Compressor Surge
Not sure on compression ratio but the car is run on shell v power and I think it boosts at 1.6bar max using a gizmo boost controller.. And like has been said if it was knocking Ryan wouldn't have let me leave in the car I don't think its knock as when it's starts to surge the dump valve keeps going ...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Compressor Surge
Ok Jim well thank you for your time and help really appreciate it :) could just do with getting the issue sorted as I said the engine is coming out and going in a new shell so while its out its easy to do work on, if its a problem with the turbo as its running near its max capacity maybe I should go...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Compressor Surge
Ahh ok, so do you think if I kept the car as it is and put some piper 285 cams in that would help deal with the air flow? ill try blanking the dump valve totally and see if that helps..
Thank you for all your help Jim

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Compressor Surge
Yeah I know what your saying but the car was mapped last summer and Ryan said the car didn't get above 37 degrees charge temps which I thought was really good, do you think its worth changing the dump valve? maybe put the standard one back on? or could it be anything to do with the wastegate? only a...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Compressor Surge

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Compressor Surge
I'll give you an instance when driving say on the motorway at 70mph and go to overtake a car in 5th put you foot down and the car has no power and gives the chatter sound and the dump valve noise feels like it's misfiring I'm about to put this engine in a new shell so while its out if there is somet...
