Re: Porous sump
Looking at the diagrams in a pdf of the repair manual, I think you're right - there's a pipe from the turbo to the sump but not enough detail to be sure. Shame cos there's a n/a breaking not far from me :) I'll find a rev 2 tubby sump to be safe, can't afford to go wrong really because it's my daily...

Re: Porous sump
Thanks for the tips
Oh sorry does it need to be a turbo sump or will one off an n/a fit?

Porous sump
Hello I don't post often but I'm fairly oldschool in that regard, I just tend to use the forums as a source of advice when I have a problem. I just checked my MOT due date and I was a month out so I've got less than two weeks to solve a couple of problems. One of which is that I have had an oil leak...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Front Brake Caliper Refurb
I used CarfactorsUK for a pair of front calipers. I changed one and was very impressed. Refund on the deposit was issued after about two weeks. The new caliper was that good, it caused a brake imbalance of 30% against my old one on the other side. So I ordered another recon. This one had patchy pain...

Re: So i finally looked inside my cat...
Thanks for the advice
Just an update, the car flew through the emissions test with a gutted cat. CO 0.4% (limit 3.5%) and HC 103 (limit 1200).

Re: So i finally looked inside my cat...
Yeah i'll be sticking it back on gutted at first anyway so that will answer the question. I wonder if its possible to 'read' a cat like you can read a sparkplug.

So i finally looked inside my cat...
Its taken a while to find the time but i finally removed my catalytic converter. it has been overheating (cat warning light comes on within a minute of driving). I found that the innards are loose and sitting on the temp sensor. I can see a bit of light through it not much though... Would this be th...

Re: AFM settings and testing
Thanks. Probably won't affect my emissions or much else then if it only affects idling.

AFM settings and testing
I came across a thread yesterday about the screw on top of the air flow meter. That thread said that the screw should be adjusted to a depth equal to the number stamped on the housing, plus 10mm. Well mine is about 12mm deep. The number on the housing looks like 83, so can anyone confirm I need to s...

Re: Emissions again
Thanks, I would try that but since I don't have emissions testing equipment at home I have no way of knowing what does and doesn't work!
A friend of a friend runs a garage so perhaps I can get some time on a tester before and after removing the pipe...

Re: Emissions again
Sorry, I meant to put that in somewhere :) 1993 Rev2 Turbo \:D/ The o2 sensor voltage doesn't fluctuate btw. Checked it again today and I was getting 3.5v at idle and dropped to less than 0.1v when engine speed increased past a certain point. I was on my own though so still haven't done the proper d...

Emissions again
I love MOT time. Please help diagnose my emissions problem... Failed due to 6.3% CO, 145ppm HC and 0.843 Lambda. Previous results were more like 0.2% CO and other values similarly low so there is clearly a problem. My cat warning light has been on, but would a failed cat make such high readings give...

Re: what exhaust
I'm not sure about the first half of your question mate, is yours a turbo? On mine I think it goes turbo - elbow - cat - front section - back box. As for the stainless cat-back parts I bought one of these from ebay. Toyota quoted me about £500 for the mild steel oem parts so £179 seems like a bargai...

Would like help with diagnosis please, Cat warning light on
I'm a bit OCD with faults and this one is making me twitch :) I wouldn't know about this fault if the cat warning light on the dash had not started coming on today. It seems to be only when the car is fully warmed up and mainly when on the throttle. At first, it seems to be linked to the turbo spool...

Re: Starter motor won't come out!
I did consider that but the thought of coolant all over the place made me think twice :) In slightly more time than it took to get the starter off, my mate and I have now had the box off, put a new clutch in, box back in and engine bay reconstructed, suspension back on. My new transmission oil didn'...

Thanks all, I was gunning for that thing this morning and the brute force method won out.
A big hammer, screwdrivers and a ball joint splitter finally won the argument.

Ok cheers mate. I'll give it a bash in the morning Just been worrying since I saw that picture on another forum where the guy smashed the starter motor casing leaving half of it in the gearbox
