Re: It's that time of year again !
Cheers Brian 8) Got curious and did a little research on the MOT history of the car since I've owned it. May 2024 will be the 20th anniversary of my ownership of this 1988 MR2 (I bought it on 13/5/2004) so this will be the 19th MOT I've put it through. Out of the 19, 16 were done at the same test st...

It's that time of year again !
MOT time, put my MR2 in last week and it failed on corrosion on the front inner sill/jacking points, both sides. Put in into a local (recommended) welder this Monday, got it back Tuesday and put it in for a retest (day 10) today, passed no problem 8) While it was up on the ramps I had a look a...

Excellent
Mr T prices have certainly gone up, back when I looked at them they were around £80 each

Re: Replacing the Drop Links
Just a little follow up on this, it's now October 2023, same links are still on my car and working fine, definitely a well spent £24 and I reckon heating/twisting them has had no ill effects

I've heard blue/green mentioned before, not much help I know. Might worth dropping a post on the mr2oc.co.uk, someone over there may know ?

This forum is dead Kev, barely see's a post a month MK1 club isn't much better. Don't know about FB, but there seems to be little interest in MK1's anywhere at the moment.

Re: Idle drops when radiators fans come on
No can't see that, might have other effects but the idle up vsv only needs a tiny current to energise and from your descriptions it works with the inputs only the rad fan one that doesn't.

Re: Idle drops when radiators fans come on
I can put the electrical diagrams up on my website if you want to download them ? As for the diodes, I have no idea what they look like or where exactly they are (never needed to find them) haven't been able to find any pictures of them anywhere. At a guess it will be a small encapsulated block, the...

Re: Idle drops when radiators fans come on
Have you ever just left it to idle and see if the fans come on pretty sure they should that’s what they’re there for lol Fans are there to keep the engine at it's optimum operating temperature  I'm not in the habit of leaving my car idling for long periods of time, however I have had it idlin...

Re: Idle drops when radiators fans come on
As I said Sounds to me like the idle up circuit is working but the radiator fan doesn't appear to be triggering it, which in turn points to a wiring ( or possibly a relay fault) on the rad fan side of the idle up circuit. As I said " it's going to be a pain to track down, how are you with elect...

Re: Idle drops when radiators fans come on
There's only 1 idle up vsv, it's controlled by inputs from:-
Lights
Brake lights
Heated Rear Screen
Heater Blower (or A/C if fitted)
Radiator Fan
The inputs are fed to the vsv via diodes, a signal on any one or more will turn the vsv on.

I'd be concerned that the rad fan is cutting in, under what circumstances does it cut in ?

Re: Idle drops when radiators fans come on
Sounds like a problem with the idle up circuit, it should increase the revs by about 200 rpm when the fan runs. If the revs increase with other electrical loads (lights, brake lights, heater blower, rear defogger) then the problem is confined to the rad fan part of the circuit. It's going to be a pa...
