Re: Clicking Noise coming from dash when heater on cool air

Not all that familiar with how the MK1 AC is controlled, but I do know that on a non-AC equipped Mk1 if you press one of the ventilation control buttons then the change is achieved by a motorised flap i.e. if it was set to windscreen (right hand button) and I want the heat to my feet (middle button ...

Re: Squeaking alternator belt

Also be very careful how you position the breaker bar, it's very easy to crack/break the alternator housing.by applying pressure to the wrong place.

Re: Heater/blower resistor pack

I only guided you in the best method of checking it (one of the benefits of 45+ years experience as an electrician) :) You did the work and found the problem  well done. From the look of the last pic it's spot welded in place rather than soldered. Those coils can get very hot in use (which is ...

Re: Heater/blower resistor pack

A 145oC F1 7A 125V 025 (image of a triangle) UMI That helps, it's not a resistor after all, it's a 7 amp thermal cutoff (fuse) that will blow at 145°C. It's there as a safety device which will cut the power if there's no (or not enough) airflow across the resistor pack i.e. fan running on a 2 or 3 ...

Re: Heater/blower resistor pack

They all look like the kind of values I would expect. But the resistor value (if that's what it is) seems very low, but that may just be the meter. Try putting the meter across the wires of the resistor and see what you get. Compare it with the 4 pin one you have. What markings are on it (the resist...

Re: Heater/blower resistor pack

Unfortunately not with the 6 pin pack, none of the drawingz I have sbow the 6 pin only the 4 pin. If you have the pack out it is relatively easy to figure it out by looking at either side to see which pins the coils/resistor are connected across

Re: Heater/blower resistor pack

Use a multi-meter to test the continuity of the resistor and coils to see which coil/connection is faulty(if any) they should all be low resistance (a few ohms), the resistor pack may be OK and the fault lie elsewhere (switch/wiring)

Re: Proud owner of my first Mr2 mk1 - But have a couple of problems

Sidelights are position markers, dim/dip works on the headlights and isn't meant as a position marker it was meant to increase the visiblity of vehicles at night when on sidelights in built up areas and reduce glare to other drivers from the dip beams. (basically it puts the dip beams in series)

Re: Proud owner of my first Mr2 mk1 - But have a couple of problems

Dim / dip was introduced in the UK as a requirement in 1987 and then the requirement done away with (still allowed but not mandatory) in 1988/89 IIRC, so it's possible it wasn't fitted on a 1989 MK1.

Re: Proud owner of my first Mr2 mk1 - But have a couple of problems

On a MK1b the lights should be: Position 1: Off Position 2: Side lights on (headlights up) Position 3: Main lights on (headlights up) - dip/full done on the stalk Position 4: Headlights up, all lights off (for changing bulbs) That's not quite correct, 1b's had dim/dip so in position 2 as well as si...

Re: Mk1 injectors impedance / resistor packs

The Haynes book of lies is based on US spec models and there are quite a few differences, the wiring diagrams I checked are for the UK spec

Re: Mk1 injectors impedance / resistor packs

According to the EPC 23250-16010 are for a Corrola AE86.
It lists 23209-16010 (substituted by 23209-16090) for the 1a

edit
1a wiring diagram doesn't show a resistor pack and the spec for the injector resistance is given as 1.5 - 3.0 ohms

Someone else said that the Celica ST162 box is the same too, and my other classic project happens to be a ST162 with headlights behaving properly - so I'll try swapping that in after I get home from work. Indeed :thumleft: 1987/89 Celica ST16# and 1987/89 Corolla AE92 both use the same Retract Cont...

Re: Passenger window help - 1989 G 1.6

Looks like your drivers side switch is faulty. To confirm this unplug the driver side switch. Use 2 pieces of wire to make up 2 links and use one to link between pins 4 (white/black) and 6 (red/blue) and the other to link between pins 1 (green) and 3 (blue) The window should go down. Then remove bot...
