Re: Insurance Claim (car write off :().

Precisely, in 18 years it really has cost me very little. Having said that I'm not intending to repair it at any cost, if I can't get it straightened then it's game over. If I can get it straightened then I don't think the rest of the repair work will be too bad, but I will carefully cost everything...

Re: MR2 PRICES.

When I bought my Rev 2 Turbo (with 19k miles on the clock) back in 1998 it cost a cool £8.2k, which would be £13.5k today's money! £4k therefore really is a bargain! I think the values will rise. Interestingly over the last 15 or so years, Twin Turbo MK4 Supras have only grown in value, around 10k i...

Re: Insurance Claim (car write off :().

Good advice mate. The guys who did the sills and respray are really good so I'm hoping they'll be up for the challenge. They don't do jigging but fortunately there's a very good local garage that does. The guys did an independent report for me and were really nice and knowledgeable. There are no gua...

Re: MR2 PRICES.

I've been looking at MR2 prices since my car was written off a few weeks ago (it's a tin top so pretty rare already), and I've seen several on eBay going for decent prices, one is selling a Rev 3 for around £3.6k, another is selling a rev 2 for £2.4k (needs a respray apparently, not unusual for cars...

Re: Insurance Claim (car write off :().

Some news. I was contacted by the 3rd party insurer and after some negotiation I have managed to get £3.5k for the car which I've accepted (didn't think I'd get anywhere near that amount). Fortunately they sent an independent engineer who understood the rarity of the cars. I've bought the car back a...

Re: colour change

I would seriously recommend you leave it black. My MK2 is red, it looks lovely but attracts complete w*nkers who consistently try and race me / cut me up etc. I'm sure a lot of this is because the colour makes it stick out like a sore thumb and ripe for challenging. Mind you if you like that sort of...

Re: Insurance Claim (car write off :().

Thanks guys for all the advice and comments, it's all really useful. The third party insurer is coming to inspect the car next Wednesday (the fact they are doing this confirms that they accept fault). The car will not be removed so it will stay exactly where it is. The good news is that having had i...

Re: Insurance Claim (car write off :().

I figured that might be the case, I remember the cash for crash scams. The good news is that the insurance company are currently pursuing it as a non-fault claim on my side. The driver admitted fault at the time. It would also be highly illogical for me to get the car fully restored (at great cost) ...

Re: Insurance Claim (car write off :().

Thanks mate, yes I've already read about situations where the cheque being cashed can be seen as an indication of acceptance. I have time on my side so they won't be trying to get me to settle out of desperation and I definitely won't be cashing any cheques in a hurry. The whole process is exasperat...

Re: Insurance Claim (car write off :().

Thanks for all the help and sympathy guys, it's really appreciated. I've gone from being gutted to being angry and am now sitting somewhere around determined. I took a load of pictures when I got it restored three months ago, they're high quality and from every angle inside and out. I have the claim...

Insurance Claim (car write off :().

Hi Guys, Unfortunately last week, my 18 years of MR2 ownership came to an abrupt end when a lorry driver rear-ended and wrote off my car - we were in a queue of traffic leading to a roundabout. The driver has admitted liability. The problem I have now is that I hadn't managed to secure an agreed val...

Re: Misfire in Rain

How old are your HT leads? Are they genuine Toyota? I've had missfire problems twice in the rain, particularly when coming on boost (when the engine is under strain). In both cases it was replacing the HT leads that solved the problem for me, but obviously they're the most expensive option, so I'd s...

Re: difference in ignition leads

Did you put them on properly? Yep pushed them down as far as they could go. The problem is the set I had used silicon boots instead of the proper fixable plastic clips so after a while they would slide off the dizzy - not fun to be running at full boost and suddenly lose a cylinder! Genuine leads a...

Re: difference in ignition leads

Having used Magnacore leads (crap - they kept popping off and offered nothing extra), NGK - Nice fit but after only a few years the car started hesitating when it was wet and finally the genuine leads, all I can say is use nothing else. Sure the genuine ones are expensive but you get what you pay fo...

Re: Rusty door change

I had rust at the bottom of my driver's door but got the body shop to weld in a patch when I got it resprayed. You can't tell it has ever been repaired. Can't remember the exact cost of the welding but it wasn't very expensive, especially if it's part f a bigger job.

Re: Its a crime!!! Or is it? Breaking

That is cool. Congratulations. Thanks dude! If looked after, Toyotas last forever! It's actually looking better now than it ever has! More amazingly, it's still on the original clutch and Turbo and is now reading 142,000 miles. I've just replaced the entire ignition system (dodgy coil and ht leads)...

Re: Its a crime!!! Or is it? Breaking

I think it all depends on why the car was bought / modified. I've met a few people who just buy the car as a play thing, throw a lot on money into it, get bored after a while and decide they want to move onto the next project. For them it's all about having the funds for their next infatuation. Ther...

Good luck Luke. I spoke to you on the phone a few weeks ago about having the engine on my Rev 2 overhauled (probably suspension too). Unfortunately it's probably going to have to wait until next year :(, I have other non-car related fish to fry over the coming months but looking forward to getting b...

Re: Air con delete belt size

I think he means that he thought the same belt drives both the alternator and the air con compressor.

They use separate belts so just remove the compressor along with its belt and all will be well.

Re: aircon its not possible to re'gas if your system is working?

Definitely wrong. Some air con places will tell you this because they were given an incentive to try and force everyone to have their systems reworked to support the newer type of gas. However there is a legal replacement for R12 - it's called RS24. This will explain further - it might be what you o...
