Re: pistonbroke
Unlikely, but you will see when its apart. The ring lands went on my original engine in 2 of the bores. There was no damage to the bores at all. The bit that breaks off is the piston land which is die cast alloy, it is held in place by the rings above and below it and also the wall of the cylinder ...

Parts should cost in the region of £300 inc misc oil / coolant ... and you'll have a whole lot of fun again !
Will it not need a rebore? due to the damage from the ring failure?

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] ringland failure - now the fun?
First step has to be to pull the pistons and confirm the diagnosis, if you have done a piston and you're happy with how the car is, you could get away with a replacement set of pistons, a light rebore, fresh rings and off you go :thumleft: yea had a scope in there so ring confirmed, so the job woul...

[Mk2] [Turbo] ringland failure - now the fun?

I...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Oily smoke from engine bay
The catch can shouldnt be full of oil as at the bottom of the tank it has a drain that goes back to the engine I would first check that there are no blockages as the oil should drain itself but other than that, ringlands :pale: Thanks for the helps guys, looks like ur right as it has a slighly lump...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Oily smoke from engine bay
Are you sure its not the catch tank? Small black tank fitted to the cam cover? Sometimes people fit a bigger one in place of the charcoal cannister. Its job essentially is to catch oil in the crankcase ventilation system, stopping it going back to the air intake system. if youre getting it full of ...

Impossible.
hmltnangel has the right idea. Does it smoke on throttle or on the overrun?
yea its smokes on throttle and under load only, and most when turbo is spooling.

Re: speakers
I want some bass in my mr2, but now gone off the sub box idea as im too tall to use one. So i dont know what to use 6x9s in the cubby holes or std boxes? I mounted one of these behind passenger seat, its not as full on as proper sub box but fills the gap nicely in the MR2 http://www.pioneer.com.sg/...

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Engine hesitation at 4000+ rpm
You may well be getting knock as it is so cold and the ecu is backing the timing and adding fuel. What fuel do you use and what is your timing set to? The car is warm when this happens, fuel is 99octane, have always used same type of fuel since i got the car. I am not sure what my timing is set to,...

[Mk2] [Turbo] Engine hesitation at 4000+ rpm
Hi,
When i plant the throttle in 2nd gear, when i get to 4000rpm+ the engine feels like it is bouncing off an rev limiter.
If i feed the throttle in slowly, the car will make it to 6000rpm and + boost.
Any have any suggestions?
Tony

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Is a sub worth it?
How are subs wired into the car audio system? I won't be putting one in straight away, but was thinking I could lay the wires if I want to install one in the future. I had the same dilemma, i want some bass as i was used to subs, but didn't want to install an amp and 10" sub. I chose this as a...

Re: Number of rev5s tubbys in the UK?
I've got a 1998 Rev 5 Turbo GTS, and as you say there's not alot of them about. When I was looking to buy a MR2 3 years ago I only saw 4 factory rev 5 Tubbys for sale between the UK & Ireland. Me too.... I have a Sept 99 MR2 GT turbo, i got it 3 years ago and it was a pain in the ass to get my ...

This is my rev5 original paint: http://www.puredream.net/mr2/wheels/ You have to keep on top of washing and waxing to keep it from going pink. Mine tends to fade in the Winter months as i couldn't be ar$ed washing it, so the first wash/wax of Spring is tough work. Would have loved a black or Comos o...

[Mk2] [Turbo] Can you identify this connector?
Hi I found this unconnected connector under neath the steering wheel while fitting audio system. my car is a rev5 turbo, it didn't come with dash lights dimmer switch, could this be the connection for it? It looks like it should connect to a switch where the fog lights are, http://www.puredream.net/...
