Re: Who's got the quickest 0 - 100 time on this forum?

that mini recorded a 11.9 and 11.7 sec 1/4 mile run Wow! Just shows you how much difference (lack of) weight makes, as if it's the same one, it uses a bog standard Rev1/2 engine! I once had an interesting incident when I was leaving a JAE show, a few years back. I had an old shaped mini on my tail,...

...says a man with a FWD Integra. I have to say though, mate, that the Integra is one of the finest fwd setups around, and is a cracking chassis, although I've never driven one. Anyway... I've said it before, and I'll say it again... You guys should get your heads together and write a book. ...

Re: 1990, Top Gear, Tiff reviews the mk2 rev1 n/a

Good thread, though I don't agree with most of Dino's comments! For me handling is little to do with grip and corner speed and everything to do with the combination of feel and progression. I will construct a more detailed reply when I'm not meant to be working :) Dom Dom, before you give you...

Re: CT20B power outputs....

applogies fopr going slightly off topic (CT20b) but can maybe Dino suggest if the PE1919t (that uses the same housing) is radically changed to get more performance out of it ? - I know it's only the housing that is the same but does it now have the same sort of restrictions being the house is the s...

12.666@110mph on stock CT20b and just bolt-ons, no trick tyres and no laughing gas or race gas!! :D

But who really cares, to be fair? They all pail into insignificance compared to times like Jeff's. =D>

Re: CT20B power outputs....

Enrico, sadly when you run nitrous, you can't compare that to running without, because the whole thing about nitrous is that it releases extra oxygen into the engine. Therefore, you can't contribute ANY of the nitrous's effects on the turbo. Take away 50bhp from that and that's closer to what the tu...

Re: 1990, Top Gear, Tiff reviews the mk2 rev1 n/a

Hi Ben :) Ah, interesting to hear you define 'handling' - what we're talking about are two subtlely different things. Grip is mechanical - handling is what happens at the limit of grip when things get interesting. Progressiveness is what makes a car forgiving and easy to control. But that's not HAND...

Re: 1990, Top Gear, Tiff reviews the mk2 rev1 n/a

Interesting points Dino. I always look at it from the perspective of being the most complete driver, ie i have spent a lot of time learning to go quickly when i've raced. Though drifting has some important lessens in car control within. Have a look at 50s GP racing for an example... fangio etc. Oh,...

Re: 1990, Top Gear, Tiff reviews the mk2 rev1 n/a

But if you truly care about how quickly the car gets round the track the feedback you get through the car is so vitally important to allow you to drive at the limit. Not necessarily, Lauren! As you tweak your car to go faster and faster, you make compromises. Normally, extra grip WILL compromise ha...

Re: 1990, Top Gear, Tiff reviews the mk2 rev1 n/a

In terms of handling, what I personally want is something with well communicated break away and adjustability on that limit through the steering, throttle and brakes. Ben, I don't consider this to be a handling trait as such. An experienced driver shouldn't have a problem with a car that's not as p...

Re: 1990, Top Gear, Tiff reviews the mk2 rev1 n/a

I read an interesting article by Martin Brundle the other day, which was dissecting Kimi Raikkonen's driving style compared to others... Basically, he was talking about his pet hate (and other F1 drivers too) is turn in OVERSTEER, which I couldn't understand when he mentioned it before, as I couldn'...

Re: 1990, Top Gear, Tiff reviews the mk2 rev1 n/a

Lauren, the point I think we'll end up here is that people's perceptions of what makes a good handling are can be totally different, so let's have some fun... I should think an F1 car is pretty involving to drive. But by your definition, a lighter, more nimble machine will be more fun, etc. Hence no...

Re: CT20B power outputs....

What's the AR of the biggest hybrid ct26 vs an oem ct20b? Cheers KiwiMR2 Are you talking about the A/R ratio of the housings? If so, the AR is static my friend, and has never been published by Toyota as far as I'm aware, although someone on the US board reckoned it was about 0.48 for the turbine si...

Re: 1990, Top Gear, Tiff reviews the mk2 rev1 n/a

Dino its not so much about the absolute speed with which you can take a corner that makes a great car, its the feel when you are doing it, plus the fun factor which obviously depends on the individual. No, Lauren, that *may* be what *you* like, but I look at corners and think "I want to get th...

Re: 1990, Top Gear, Tiff reviews the mk2 rev1 n/a

Lauren, there is one area where a Mk2 will be superior to Mk1s, and that's high speed corners. After all, the Mk2 has a longer wheelbase and track, unless I'm mistaken. The downside is that the Mk1 will be better on the tighter corners, ie hairpins.

Re: CT20B power outputs....

The exhaust housing has to me larger to allow more air flow to get out. It seems that most of the Ct26 hybrids I have read about increase the compressor which can only have as much gains as the exhaust side will allow the air out. Owens have always done extensive machine work to the exhaust housing...

Re: CT20B power outputs....

So can a hybrid CT26 eliminate the loss of boost at higher RPM's, eliminate high temps at higher boost and retain the little lag the OE item has? While creating satisfactory power gains? Compared to a simularly modded CT20b.. See? THat's what I mean about unrealistic goals, mate! ;) How do you expe...

Bring a car over here and prove it! (Just like people in the US were telling me years ago, when I was sticking up for the CT26). :)

They don't give out much info on what's been done, Jeff, but I guarantee it's no different to what's been done over here for years.

Re: CT20B power outputs....

Next arguement - hybrid CT26 or CT20b ? hybrid - safer  CT20b was not designed to run at 19psi really  Depends, really, on what's been done to the CT26. The 2 things I'd like to see sorted are: 1) replacement of any ceramic turbine wheel 2) fitment of a 360degree thrust bearing (for high...
