Re: Rally Car

174 at the wheels! wow, whoever built/mapped that engine did a good job, looking at the torque curve, close to peak torque from fairly low rpm, not what I would expect from a highly tuned NA 4AGE!

yeah I clocked the random yellow box trying to escape. oh yes the noise!

Re: Hi, Im new (ish)

Im just after a quick question being that my mate has offered me a GReddy blue E-managment for cheap and all i need to get is a harness for the 4age but was wondering what this actually does and if its worth it. It's a piggyback ECU. You can connect it to a laptop and make adjustments to the fuelli...

I like the way it sometimes makes more noises even after you turn it off. It's like it doesn't want to die. Chris you've built a monster

Re: 4AGE budget cam install and tuning

would be great if you could find it (: I know what you mean, changing the cam timing allows us to move the peak torque up and down the power band, but there isn't that much torque there to move around! On the dyno print I have barely 100lb/ft peak, at the flywheel. The 4AGE isn't renowned for its to...

Re: Engine Rebuild Parts/Cost?

I had a similar dilemma with another car. I would get a replacement engine and swap it in, especially if the car is your daily. Then you can take your time rebuilding your current engine. It gives you more options, you can chuck it no problem if the bores are shot, or tune it if it looks good (:

Re: 4AGE budget cam install and tuning

good discussion guys :thumleft: It sounds like ITBs on the stock ECU really isn't going to work. anyway... talking of low/high end power... the next stage of my tuning project is... ... cam timing! I may have found a cheap set of adjustable cam gears. So I can see if I can squeeze any more out of th...

Smokin' cakes, they've gone already. For that kind of money though, I think it might be worth getting a set, have a play and see if I can sort the fuelling... :)

the corolla boys just use a spare 4AGE fuel rail

anyway, you buggers, you're giving me ideas

Re: 4AGE budget cam install and tuning

Hi Erin I think you are right, I don't need more fuel! I was actually wondering whether a pot on the air temp sensor might be useful for future mods. I was thinking if it could work for 20v throttles! (after doing some reading it looks like ITBs really mess up the MAP sensor readings, and a pot woul...

Re: Shim bank?

BarronMR has the shim bank at the moment. We'll see if he spots this thread.

Wow, word about the shim bank gets around then! Where did you hear about it, Gordy?

The best way of changing shims without the special tool is to get the shim bank because it has the tool in it 8)

Re: 4AGE budget cam install and tuning

Hey Jeremy, I have a couple more questions for you; I might as well ask them on here (: Would it be ok to tweak fuelling by modifying the intake air sensor signal? (I know you said it's not ok to modify the coolant temp signal as this affects ignition timing also). I dug out your articles and they s...

Re: DIY coilovers

I'm tempted to try some rally design sleeves on my mk1.5. Has anyone experimented with spring rates? I've read 4kg/mm front and 9kg/mm rear but I've never tested the rates on any of my setups. I'm running 225lb/in front (pretty close to 4kg/mm) and 375lb/in rear and it needs to be stiffer on the re...

just had two lights come on on my dash. battery discharge light. engine bay cooling fan light. battery one i think my belt is loose, so thats easily sorted. not sure about the other one. AW11rally - carbs haha! Thanks for looking them up for me though. ActualIy I shouldn't laugh; I remember yours was doing pretty well with carbs..? Re: 4AGE budget cam install and tuning

wow, lots of interest then! Jeremy - You did read the AFRs correctly. We did three runs with each ECU, and the AFRs changed a bit on each run. Could this be coolant temperature differences making the ECU change the fuelling slightly do you think? Anyway the change you see is typical of this variatio...

Re: 4AGE budget cam install and tuning

I've got some results from a decent dyno! Ajec Racing, who now come highly recommended by me. I did some runs with my modified ECU and then changed to a stock ECU from Limeymk1 to see if there was any change in AFR which might indicate increased fuelling, but there wasn't, unfortunately. Run 002 is ...
