Re: MR2 Turbo keeps cutting out

Orange spark? Maybe worth checking the dizzy cap and rotor arm again and if you have that rubber ring thing to stop condensation. Failing that, limp it to the nearest mr2 specialist ! Yeah, there was a drip of oil in the dizzy cap, I might spray in some WD40 into the dizzy cap and on the arm, see i...

Re: MR2 Turbo keeps cutting out

Maybe bring the boost down to stock levels for a while. Could be an ecu or fuel pump issue or blocked fuel filter, although it would need of pretty blocked to cause your woes. Nah, fuel pump runs fine when I bridge the terminals in the diaognostics port, and it still won't start. i repalced the Cir...

What boost level are you running?

Running 1 bar of boost with a GReddy intercooler, and cold grade plugs.
ECU stores no fault codes for this, unfortunately.

It's driving me up the wall.
I've had to abandon it in a carpark this afternoon!

MR2 Turbo keeps cutting out

Hi Guys, When driving along in town, my Rev 2 MR2 Turbo just cuts out, all the lights come on in the dash, and it won't start again. It been doing this for a while now, and so far I have changed: - Spark Plugs - Earth under the Inlet manifold checked and cleaned - Earths under each inspection panel ...

Igniter / Distributor during Starting

Someone told me that the igniter sends signals to the ECU something like this: 1st send a small amount of fuel and a spark 2nd check for ignition 3rd if we get ignition send OK to ECU for fuel and running, otherwise cut the fuel. Apparently its to prevent the engine flooding? He said that is why, wh...

Re: Intermittent Starting - PLEASE can someone help me!?

Thanks for th suggestions guys, have you changed the cold start switch? (grey sensor on the water elbow IIRC) could be its busted and when the engine cools down just a bit it fires up the cold start injector which can foul the plugs. I haven't changed the cold start switch or the cold start injector...

Intermittent Starting - PLEASE can someone help me!?

Hi Guys, PLEASE can someone help me!? I seem to have a bit of an intermittent starting fault, which has caused my MR2 Turbo to be abandoned a few times  Basically I turn the key, it turns over, but doesn't fire into life. It would seem leaving it over night and going back to it allows it to sta...

Where to buy new Coil/Igniter

Any ideas?
Is Toyota the only place to get a brand new coil & igniter?

It's a Rev 2 Turbo, looking at £120 from Toyota I think.

Stuttering Boost with Exhaust Bung Out

I have a Rev 2 with a 5Zigen border exhaust, stock CT26 & a Greddy I/C with the boost set to 1 Bar. When I run the exhaust with the bung in, the power delivery is smooth throughout the rev range. However, if I remove the bung, and run the car through full boost up the rev range, it feels kind of...

On my Rev 2 GTS Turbo I have: - Factory optional Momo steering wheel - Factory optional LSD - Factory optional Steering Fog Lights - 5Zigen single exit border 304 exhaust - GReddy SMIC - GAB Sports rear strut brace Not sure how "rare" they are, but they are nice well built parts either way...

Re: Passenger Door Destroyed

Welcome to the fun world of swapping doors :) You'll have to take the wing off to gain access to the door hinges. The wiring loom is 2 plugs inside the footwell (see step 12 here: http://www.stephenmason.com/cars/mr2doorwire.html ) then you thread the whole lot out. Refitting is the reverse of remo...

Re: Passenger Door Destroyed

Well, I am now the proud owner of this: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=230597111553 Looks like it's from an import, and the bloke said J or K reg, so I'm hoping Rev 2 (exactly what I'm needing). Fingers crossed it's plug and play, otherwise it'll be sleaves up and on to dis...

Re: Passenger Door Destroyed

If you buy a replacement door it will have to be from a similar car. i.e. if it's from an import it will need to be an import door, if it's from a rev1 it will have to be a rev1 door. Unless you want to swap all the innards over. I found this on fleaBay - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?View...

Re: Best Spark Plugs and Oil - Rev 2 Turbo - Increased Boost

This has been covered many times before.
If you search for oilman's posts you'll get some info.

I run an Rev 2 Turbo, with increased boost, decat, free'er flowing exhaust etc.

I use:

Fuchs TITAN SUPERSYN 5W-40 Fully Synthetic Oil
Genuine Toyota filter
BKR7E1X (Cold grade) Platinum Plugs

Do you think it would be do-able in situ?
I mean remove all pipes etc and mask everything up?
Or am I as well just removing it?
