Re: JAE 2021 - Thursday 12th August to Sunday 15th August 2021

Probably not, mk1 has gone beyond being a useable road car (no lights and an impractically low splitter) so isn't taxed or MOTd at the moment. It's possible I'll drag it along on the trailer but more likely will just be in the mk3

Re: Pistols MR2 stories... Race car and Project car..

It's what I'd do. You need to open both gearboxes up to swap the diff over anyway so you might as well use the casing that right for the car as it's no more work. You've also got the option of whether to use the 2ZZ 6th gear or the slightly longer one from the 1ZZ box

Re: Pistols MR2 stories... Race car and Project car..

What are you doing about gear linkages Pete? Celica linkage is on the front of the gearbox Mk3 linkage is on the rear of the gearbox (Same as Corolla I believe - which is a point in favour of using a Corolla as a donor) The 'right' solution is to mix and match gearbox parts to to get the combination...

Speaking of which, I think you still have my spares. Any chance you can bring them to Blyton this weekend?

It's pleasing to see C868 XVT still providing you with smiles. Keep it up! Cheers, new season starts Saturday so nearly time to go again. Last season ended with a 3rd place overall championship position despite some kind of mechanical issue at every round. Not done much to the car over the winter s...

Re: 3STGE AFM on 4AGZE

The detail of my installation may not be much help in your scenario as it's pretty specific to some of the details on my car that are not relevant to you. The chargecooler core is an ST205 item in much the same location as the stock intercooler. It's more or less unmodified although the ends of the ...

Re: 3STGE AFM on 4AGZE

An intercooler will always be sub-optimal in a mid engined car as getting good airflow to the IC will always be compromsed. For this reason my preference would always be to use W2A. I use an ST205 chargecooler setup on my turbocharged 4AGZE

Re: Best clutch for racing

To be fair a race start is probably different to a sprint start. I don't need to worry about reaction times (timing only starts when I break the timing beam) so I don't need to hold the bite point for very long before launching whereas in a race start I'd imagine it's normal to hold the bite point a...

Re: Best clutch for racing

I've been sprinting my mk1 for years, mostly with a 4A-GZE (n/a clutch and gearbox type though so still relevant to you) I fitted a brand new blueprint clutch in 2008 and it still had life in it when I replaced it after 7 years, 50 or so events and well over 500 sprint starts. I turbo charged my eng...

Are there going to be any MR2s left that you haven't done an engine swap on by the time you're finished?

Re: 4AGZE Blowing Noise

I was hoping I could bring it out in one piece. That'll make it easier (ish), except it'll be heavy. If it can come out in one piece I won't have to faff around with the vac pipes and remembering where they all go. My memory is slowly returning... I seem to recall that if you undo the two upper mou...

Re: 4AGZE Blowing Noise

The supercharger is not anywhere near the head, so that won't cause you an issue. The top mounts for the SC attach to the inlet manifold and the SC itself blocks access to some of the manifold bolts so it is a factor. I have removed an SC head in situ bit I remember it being a bit fiddly. I'm prett...

The faded orange was getting a bit much so I decided to try my hand at vinyl wrapping. Bought some appropriate tools and 10m of Avery Supreme gloss orange and set to work. First off, remove all of the stickers to show just how much it's really faded: http://kaiowas.co.uk/images/mr2/wrap/faded.jpg Ov...

Re: Front Suspension Leg higher

For a start, measure your ride height properly. You'd be surprised how far off bodywork can be without it being obviously noticable. Particularly aftermarket fibreglass parts. Measure to a point that's structurally fixed and relevant to the suspension. I'd suggest the inboard end of the track contro...

Last minute as ever, but can you please put me on the list. Will probably just be me this year although Vix may come along for one day (she'll just get a day ticket on the gate if she can make it)
